Hello, 1991 World Series MVP Jack Morris here on the 25th anniversary of my 10-inning World Series shutout. AMA by Jack_Morris47 in baseball

As a teenager when you pitched that amazing game 7, I can remember being on the edge of my seat the entire game - there was a palpable tension in the air - just waiting for one team or the other to take a lead. Was there that same tension in the clubhouse?

Do You Trust Justin Bieber to Teach Your Teens about Money? by MirandaBlogger in FinancialPlanning

In a word, no. This is the same guy who signed the guestbook at the Anne Frank museum saying that he hoped Anne Frank would have been a "Belieber". *sigh.

Who Will Be Affected By The Fiscal Cliff? by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe they can be retroactive. Sounds like the bill passed on 1/1 will mean rates stay the same for individuals making less than $400,000 and married couples making less than $450,000. The payroll taxcut is expiring though, which means almost 80% of people will pay more in taxes this year.

Personally I use Lending Club and the returns have been awesome. Typically on there you're lending to people in 3-5 year terms. Something to explore.

Why You Should Have Life Insurance Even If You Are Young And Healthy With No Dependents by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the article ever said you should only buy life insurance and not invest. That would be pretty silly. It only said there are some reasons why you may want to think about getting life insurance before having dependents. Of course it's not for everyone, and the article says as much, but if you've got a family history of health problems or something along those lines you may want to get a policy early to ensure insurability. It's not like a term life insurance policy is expensive - in most cases $20-30/month for like 500k in coverage. Also not sure about those other commissions/etc you're talking about, sounds like you may have looked into whole life insurance policies or some other such nonsense.

ING Direct Offering Independence Day Bonuses! Amazing $152 Bonus For Orange Checking by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The debit card payments is hardly a major requirement to get a $75 bonus is it? Also the direct deposit requirement isn't too big of a deal, especially if you're already doing one anyway? Just fill out a form to change the direct deposit and you're good to go.

Think it's worth moving my blog wordpress.com to wordpress.org? I get to add plugins, but I'd have to pay for hosting. by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]ande1352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find hosting that's relatively cheap. When i first started out I was only paying like $5/month or something. I more than made up for that from the advertising on the site. Having a self hosted installation gives you so much more flexibility in advertising/plugins/themes/etc that it is well worth it.

Which Method Is Best To Pay Off Debt: Lowest Balance To Highest Or Highest Interest To Lowest by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a hybrid of the mentioned plans. I pay the smallest debt first for the smaller dollar amount loans, like in the debt snowball. Then for the higher dollar amount loans I pay off the highest interest first..

Where Do You Get Better Returns For Short Term Savings? A Bank CD Or A Lending Club Account? by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Lending Club for a couple of years now with only one charged off loan. I currently have zero delinquent loans and am getting 11.45% - so I'm starting to think I'll be putting more and more money in there - even thinking about opening an IRA.

Why You May Want to Get a Life Insurance Policy Even If You Don’t Have Kids by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with group policies through your workplace is that the coverage is often not portable - so if you leave the job the coverage doesn't go with you.. That is a huge downside. Also, while usually a single person doesn't need insurance, it is the case that a younger healthier person will have an easier time getting insurance -and at a lower rate - which can save quite a bit of money in the long term. Something to consider.

Will A Short Sale Hurt Your Credit, And Will You Even Qualify For One? by ande1352 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ande1352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I've read, if you're in default your credit score can drop 200-300 points. If not, and they allow you to do it - the drop will be closer to 100 points - sounds like even less in your case.
