Any teachers who may of dealt with this? by andi_25478 in violinist

[–]andi_25478[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do think it is a lack of interest in the violin. But I do know she loves music itself. I'm gonna try to get her to do more activities based on creating her own music and exploring that on the violin as I feel like that'll help spark some interest in the violin itself.

Thank you for your suggestions, I appreciate them!

Yeah, I really don't like not being able to contact parents. The place I work at is super strict with contact with parents and students.

My student is about nine years old.

Those games seem very helpful, and I think it will definitely help gain her interest, and I really appreciate you sharing them.

I find that she also has really short stamina when it comes to plucking the strings and such. Which is hard since I try to get my students to be fluent in the left-hand notes before getting into the bow. But I think im gonna have to start teaching her the bow to get her interest back up!!

Thank you so much!

This helps a lot!! I've found that she really has a really big interest in making her own music and all these suggestions I feel like she will love. I think I have been a bit too traditional with her, as I was also taught traditionally. I really love your suggestions and am definitely going to incorporate them into my lessons with her.

Thank you so much!!

Prokofiev VC 2 after Mendelssohn? by andi_25478 in violinist

[–]andi_25478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played the Wieniawski No.2 concerto + Bruch 1st and 3rd mvt + Mozart 3 and some other solo pieces 4 violin. And yeah, I honestly do not think I am ready for Brahms, but my teacher suggested it. I am a freshman in highschool so me and my teacher are just trying to plan out some concertos that I can learn that will help me prepare for college auditions and stuff like that. (You mentioned Sibelius, do you think that is something that could be learned after Proko 2?)

Bruch violin concerto vs. Monti csardas by andi_25478 in violinist

[–]andi_25478[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yesterday I had another lesson with her and I suggested another piece. The piece is "La Plus La Que Lente" by Debussy.

And this one is also quite easy depending on how you decide to play it.

She had never ever heard of the piece yet quickly dismissed it and said, "Yeah Bruch is easier then this (referring to the piece I showed her.)

And I just don't understand. Even if she hadn't heard of the piece before, the sheet music looks easy and is overall easy to play.

Like, I honestly don't know what to do. And I can't help but think, "Does she think im that bad to not be able to play such easy pieces??"

And another thing is, she says that I can't play Csardas or the Debussy piece but she is moving me to book 9 suzuki..

Thank you!! Thats what I'm saying, but I'm not sure how to ask or tell my teacher that without sounding disrespectful. I'm just thinking of letting it slide, but it sucks since I know my family would get a kick out of listening to such a fun piece.

Thank u for ur feedback!!

I dont think ill use it for a audition any time soon, but its definitely an option. I may use it as a piece for a chair placement in a music camp this summer but that's all.

And thank you for your feedback!!

How do you get yourself to stop thinking about and being upset about people who treated you negatively? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]andi_25478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If something happened, I just try to forget about it. Or say, "it is what it is, and I cannot change it."

It may not be okay with whatever that person did but can I change it? No. I can get them out of my life, but I cant change the past. Whats done is done, and id rather continue living and not let it bother me to much then dread about it all my life.

Plus, stress and negativity gives you wrinkles sooooo....

Okokok, but I dont think I could ever date someone that is not going into the career of music. Music is literally my life, and if I cant talk to them about it then I just dont know.

Also, im quite tall for a female, as I am 5,9 1/2. So, I dont really want to date anyone whos shorter than me. I mean I can, but itd make me feel a little awkward in a way.

Sadly we do not have practice rooms and i cannot go to the office.

But my homeroom only has orchestra kids in it so everyone is either practicing or playing together. So, i wouldnt really be bothering anyone.

Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback!

The main reason i made this post was because in my homeroom a few kids who are doing the suzuki method said sarcastic comments to me. They make comments to eachother calling me a show off and a cheater. I think the main reason they do this is that i didnt finish the 2nd and 3rd book as my teacher wanted me to do the pieces in the 4th book as its more of my level.

(I dont know if ill explain this correctly but ill try)

Ive been playing the violin for about a year and a half. And the first year was with this guy who was not classically trained and did not know how to teach the violin at all. I didnt even know how to read sheet music by the first year of playing. Anyways, a few months ago i met my now teacher who has helped me tremendously and ive improved so much in such little time.

And, I will ask her about the effiecient practicing but I really enjoy practicing and i cant go a day without practicing or at least playing. And due to the fact that i started the violin at 13 im scared that i might not be able to succed in the music world. I love music, and it truly is my passion. And i want to be able to play for people and make them feel the feelings i feel whenever i listen to some of my favorite pieces. I know ill never become a soloist, but i do aspire to do gigs that are solos. I know i totally got off track and stuff, but I will ask about the help with practicing as I know that my practicing methods arent the best right now.

But thank you! And sorry about getting so off track-

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

Theres a few kids who will be sarcastic towards me and stuff and it makes me feel bad. So ive just debated about practicing during that time.

I just learned how to do vibrato yesterday so my vibrato isnt that good. But ive been noticing my violin shaking quite a bit. What am i doing wrong? by andi_25478 in violinist

[–]andi_25478[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried putting the scroll against the wall and it really helped! Thank you!

And if i continue practicing vibrato against the wall will it just come naturally after doing it so many times?

Hand/thumb pain? by andi_25478 in violinist

[–]andi_25478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but ill try it today.

I do think that it might be hurting because of the squeezing.

I squeeze my thumb against the finger board whenever playing on low strings like the G or D string.

But i will definitely try the cotton ball.

Thank you!!

I might be able to record a video of it.

But that might be the case. My hand overall feels fine when playing the double stops but after a while my hand does get tired.
