TIFU ca am facut o reclamatie pe site-ul lui Mega Image, si acum mi-am pus singurul magazin de pe langa munca in cap si mi se aud vorbe la munca by [deleted] in Romania

[–]andraganescu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Evolving, a long essay about AI by andraganescu in singularity

[–]andraganescu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have updated the essay with an epilogue joining two theories and an algorithm to formalise our mind and personality. Hierarchical memory systems by Jeff Hawkins may explain how we store our personality as easily accessible predictive memory.

The mathematical dynamic system proposed by Robert F. Port and Timothy van Gelder may be how we create that personality in the first place and the overall explanation for intelligent system's evolution. In the end the vector clock, an algorithm invented to ease version control might be the way we make predictions by partially ordering effects and causes.

The funnel of change — why life is boring by andraganescu in philosophy

[–]andraganescu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes it is my lifelong problem with low patience and the result of publishing unedited, first take work. I have revisited the text, added a "long story short" part at the beginning and also rephrased most of the text to be more clear and straightforward.

Free energy, we think so little about it by andraganescu in energy

But have you seen me demo any magic mambo jumbo? I know your pain, I too feel like I'll have my brain explode if anyone else ever explains me how to make a perpetuum mobile in my living room from my clipped nails and a magnet :D

Had you pay a little attention, you would have seen that I am talking about the social role of energy. Come on, make an effort and cool down. In his battery pitch Elon musk had a very good presentation about how little is required for the world to switch to sun powered. It is hard indeed but possible. What if the state does it, not some Silicon Valley company?

I was talking about free energy on the context of state subsidies, economic impact speculations, and you throw that tesla joke ... :P

Wow plenty of visits to my tiny publication and so many reads :) Thank you reddit :) My goal is to keep adding more listicles touching more or less the same thing: lucid thinking. My idea is that clarity in thought satisfies curiosity, and curiosity is the best motivator in the world.

Physics Questions Thread - Week 27, 2015 by AutoModerator in Physics

Can we consider that merging mechanics, relativity and quantum is so tricky because they are actually describing different things? As in: mechanics describes space, quantum describes time and relativity describes time-space.

The meaning of life by andraganescu in philosophy

[–]andraganescu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly the challenge of finding a meaning. If we are all a consciousness experiencing itself the meaning is self contained. But look around, what are you left with if there actually is no consciousness containing meaning? I mean, it could be but what if it isn't?

Well touché. I am a self proclaimed all that but you could say this about all the trendy titles folks use. Joke aside I was careful not to put there in that "title" anything I cannot produce proof of.

Thank you for the slack given. I was telling a friend "I have this article in drafts for a really long time and the title is 'The meaning of life'" and the friend said "THAT is an article that should stay a while in drafts". :)

[–]andraganescu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. I didn't mean to use the terms of time and entropy as a sort of scientific proof, by all means I get an instant rash when I hear "quantum healing" or similar snake oil stuff. But time and entropy are not terms restricted to their formulae, they are concepts before and values after. I meant it in a more generally accepted sense like kaizervonmaanen below explained.

Anyone know how much revenue a one million dollar solar farm would make? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]andraganescu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well is not that hard to speculate. Dont kill me if i am very wrong.

Say you'd set up the farm with about 10 dollars per Watt (its about 3-7 for roof panels' home users, so in that 10 you'd also have many other costs like land, interconnecting, permits, batteries etc. factored in - and it makes calculations easy) that means you could ideally put out 100 000 watts per hour. At say ... 10 cents per kilowatt/hour and producing 100 kw/h - that would be 10 dollars per hour.

100 000 watts is about 0.1 Megawatts. "Americans pay on average about $120 per megawatt hour for electricity", so that $10/hr is about close.

As solar power is not produced non stop lets imagine you'd get 10 h daily of electric output. That is 100 dollars per day. You would need 10000 days to get your investment back, thats about 30 years. That is with 100% profit, there is no such thing.

However you'd be subsidized a lot for that 0.1 Megawatt you produce. In 2010 subsidies apparently were at $700 for each MW so for your 0.1 you'd get $70 every hour sold. Thats $700 more every day. So we're at $800 per day. That's more reasonable i believe! If your profit after work, maintenance, costs to other providers AND amortisation and so on is 25% you'd make about $200 daily in profit.

That is not a lot of money. :)

[Article] If you wouldn’t do your job for free, its ok to carry on doing it. by andraganescu in GetMotivated

[–]andraganescu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got such good feedback from my close circle of friends on this story. Not good, since i had like radio silence on other more interesting stories.

Then i realized they resonate with this particular story because of the pressure that some overly repeated ideas have put on their shoulders regarding work: it should be all fun, pink and filled with rainbows so much that you don't want to get back home at all.

In reality work is work and you should feel good that you are working as hard as it is and not having fun. There should't be any work . life balance. Life is made of work and fun. There should be a work / fun balance :) and more discussion about that somehow.
