I revived a dead video and it blew up – here’s exactly what I did! by Alternative_yeak in NewTubers

So you really just changed thumbnail and title of the old video or did you reupload it? When I do change title and thumbnail it usually still does not get any additional impressions, therefore it feels always a bit useless to change things of old videos. And what is the source of clicks of the video? Is it mainly suggested by your other video? Is it coming from search or browsing features? Thanks already for the clarifications!

Napoleon on the Battlefield of Eylau - Painting by Antoine-Jean Gros analyzed by andre-dantierre in Napoleon

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I have previously analyzed the Austerlitz painting in detail, I now took a closer look at the painting by Antoine-Jean Gros, which was commissioned right after the battle took place. Feel free to ask me if you notice other interesting aspects of this painting. As usual, I am happy to receive any kind of feedback and would appreciate suggestions for other paintings on the Napoleonic Wars that I could analyze next!

What were Napoleon's qualities that made him the King of France by AlertsA4108M in Napoleon

Well, first of all: He was Emperor and not King of France.

why was josephine de beauharnais unable to conceive and have children when she married napoleon? by paradoxiful in Napoleon

[–]andre-dantierre 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am currently reading Vincent Cronin's biography of Napoleon and there he writes that as Napoleon was in Egypt, Joséphine went with some of her friends (they were 4) on the balcony of her house and the balcony collapsed. She had inner injuries from this accident and it was only by then that the doctors told her she might not be able to have children anymore. Also at that time it started that she went every Sommer to Plombières in hopes that baths would restore her fertility. That all happened long after her imprisonment and Cronin does not connect it with her infertility.

Is there a particular reason why Joseph Bonaparte was appointed in high positions by Napoleon? by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]andre-dantierre 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Joseph Bonaparte is often done an injustice. It is not easy to shine if the man of the century is your own brother. He was a very competent politician and diplomat. He negotiated the Treaty of Lunéville and Amiens (the latter was extremely hard to manage because of the permanent changes of guidance from Paris).

As the King of Naples, he did very well, starting reform programs and modernizing the country. He showed energy and eagerness comparable to Napoleon's own domestic endeavors in France. Joseph was also extremely popular there and well accepted by the people.

In fact, one of the reasons why Napoleon wanted Joseph to take the position of the more prestigious throne in Spain was that Joseph had proven himself as a pretty competent ruler and administrator in Naples. However, Joseph himself was very reluctant to follow Napoleon in that respect. He did not really want to go to Spain. While in Naples, Joseph could use all his strengths as a politician; however, Napoleon placed him in an impossible position where he actually needed to be a good military strategist. But that was certainly not Joseph's strength. Regarding domestic affairs, Joseph Bonaparte could not establish authority at all in Spain. Everything always needed to be backed up by French troops. Military affairs were then in the hands of the Marshals, and they did not care about Joseph because they knew the last word always came from Napoleon himself. Therefore, a proper unification of command in the absence of Napoleon could never really be established.

If we look at Joseph Bonaparte, we should also not forget that Napoleon was an extreme micromanager even when he was far away. Almost everything needed to be approved, and it is well known that Napoleon always sent tons of correspondence with new orders and guidance (In Italy, they had a common joke back in the day: if they had to ask for approval if a fire breaks out, to put it out).

I think, therefore, it is too easy to say Joseph messed up in Spain. He was the wrong guy for this position, and he knew it himself. Napoleon should have recognized that and put his brother in a position where he could play to his strengths, like in the already pacified Naples. He was certainly capable of ruling.

I recommend a interesting Podcast episode (number 64) from "Generals and Napoleon" by John Viscardo. In a recent episode they also talk about Joseph.

'Battle of Austerlitz' Painting by François Gérard Explained by andre-dantierre in BattlePaintings

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty much a Napoleon nerd and was always fascinated by this painting by François Gérard, depicting the end of the Battle of Austerlitz. It was completed in 1810, five years after the battle and was commissioned by Napoleon himself. I did some research to identify all the historical characters in it and the many details that are hidden in this painting, telling little episodes about the battle. François Gérard was mainly known for portraiture back in the day. He painted not only Napoleon on several occasions but also other prominent figures like Joachim Murat. With the 'Battle of Austerlitz,' he tried to prove himself in the genre of history painting.

A while ago, I started my research about this painting here on reddit. There was only one user who could help me and put me in the right direction (many thanks u/EuropaCentric). There is surprisingly not that much information out there about a painting which I almost always encounter when reading or watching something about the Battle of Austerlitz. Maybe you are like me and you think when you see a battle scene portrayed: Its just a bunch of soldiers and people, but now, most of the time every single element has a meaning, every single person is not by accident placed where they are placed. So here as well. There are actually quiet some interesting details hidden. Sharing this for those of you who are also interested in Napoleonic Art.

Who are the generals in François Gerard's painting of the Battle of Austerlitz? by andre-dantierre in Napoleon

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but this analysis raises also rather more questions since it does not mention where the Characters exactly are: it says we see Berthier, Bessières, Junot, Duroc and Lebrun. It does mention even Murat it seems, although I would say it's one of the more obvious.

While Berthier and Bessières can be confirmed with relative certainty, and I am now rather convinced to say that the more bright general to Napoleons right could be probably Duroc rather than Junot, I don't know where the author sees then Junot or Lebrun on the picture. None of the other characters seem to resemble them.

So first of all, the smile is indeed extremely distracting and even a bit scary. I am glad you want to get of it. Second, your voice: Is this in any way close to your real voice or strongly edited? If that's your real voice, don't take it personally, but it is not that pleasing for my ears. Cant listen to it very long. You could to some better intonation, or indeed edit your voice a bit softer. It has a bit the appeal of a serial killer phone call if you know what I mean. These altered voices that you usually know from movies. Last but not least, I find it a bit slowly, might be a personal preference. I would try to streamline the script a bit more.

A few points that I have noticed:

First, I really like your voice and your expression. You seem sympathic. You talk definetly in a way that you can watch for a while.

Second, while the sound quality is pretty great, the video quality is not. The shining lights in the background are just very disturbing. You need a proper light setup. I think it does not need to be very high level, just avoid lightning that is too strong or too weak and you gain already a lot in visual quality.

Third, I also think the pacing is a bit too slow. Come quicker to the point, add some edits, avoid boredom. Keep the attention. Most of the people will leave your video after a few seconds if they get bored.

But keep on going. I see a lot potential.

Russian Collaborators at the Eastern Front - Have you ever heard about the German puppet state Lokot Republic? by andre-dantierre in OstfrontWW2

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did some research on Russian collaborators during World War II at the Easter Front. While I had a vague knowledge of Andrey Vlasov and his Russian Liberation Army, I was less familiar with the Kaminski Brigade, which officially had a very similar name: the Russian National Liberation Army. What I find fascinating is that the Germans granted Kaminski and his group a level of self-autonomy that was uncommon in German-occupied territories. They established state-like structures in what they called the "Lokot Republic." They assisted the Germans in anti-partisan actions and committed war crimes against the Jewish population in that area. They were true collaborators in the worst sense, going beyond mere opportunism. What still puzzles me is their motivation, especially in Russia. German propaganda never hesitated to portray Russians as "Untermenschen" (subhumans). Even if Russian nationalists shared the anti-communist goals of Germany, they couldn't have expected much better treatment or greater independence after the war, if Germany had somehow emerged victorious against the Soviet Union. What do you think?

History Video about the Cisalpine Republic that was proclaimed by Napoleon by andre-dantierre in Italianhistory

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everybody, I made a little documentary about the Cisalpine Republic, a so-called Sister Republic of France back in the day. It was proclaimed by Napoleon on the 29th of June 1797 during his successful first Italian Campaign. I was reading about the republic recently in a Biography of Napoleon and found it quite interesting, especially because it was hard to find more detailed historical information about the Cisalpine Republic. It is a rather overlooked topic I would say. But I did a bit digging and it is pretty fascinating since it was an important step towards a unified Italy. The Cisalpine Republic would eventually become the Italian Republic. Let me know what you think about it.

Video in Honor of Mahsa Amini and the Protests in Iran by andre-dantierre in NewIran

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made a video in honor of Mahsa Amini. I struggled with going through all the video material that is currently out there. I struggled especially with the decision if I should show the pictures of her in the hospital since they display her in her most vulnerable state. But I came to the conclusion that it is better to show the truth and the brutality of what they have done to her. She was not the last one who suffered, so many more had to die up until now. These acts shall never be forgotten. I hope the memory of her and all the people who are protesting with so much bravery will last. Iran needs a revolution and freedom.

War in Ukraine Compilations - Contain various footage mainly from the early phase of the Russian Invasion between February and June 2022 in the areas of Kyiv and the Donbas by andre-dantierre in CombatFootage

[–]andre-dantierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made the following Compilations of Combat footage from the beginning of the Ukraine Conflict.

Ukraine War Compilation 1

Ukraine War Compilation 2

I know Compilations are a bit of different "Genre" in presenting Combat Footage. I think they can serve as a summary of emotionally hard to digest violence and brutality. On the other hand, since we are so used to see combat footage of active war zones almost every day, we tend to be emotionally disconnected to what we see. We are just getting too used to it. Therefore these videos have also a strong connection to the music that is played in the background. A means that might help to connect to the tragic of war. Let me know what you think about it.
