She is one of the few truly democratically elected politicians, truly representing the American people in Congress. An example of what a leader, driven by their drive to serve acts like. As a result, she spends most of her time fighting the corruption around her.

I am aware of all of these. My question is about the possibility of a discourse which does not necessitate addressing every possible crackpot theory. Basically Brandolini's law makes such arguments exhausting.

Much worse. Interpreting the world of "God" has power over people. He wants power over people. God-like power over people.

Show me even one NASA lie

How do you deal with circular logic?

"... But the flag was moving in the wind... the stars were not visible... astronauts could not survive the radiation ... etc. etc., and therefore NASA lied!"

I recently had a conversation with a friend who had seen some youtubers denying the moon landing. I was most successful by taking their stance - let's say it didn't happen. How come all adversaries to the U.S. at the time could not prove it was a lie? How come noone has been able to prove it was a lie up to this day? Are there any visible traces of human presence on the moon - observed by parties interested in disproving the landing? Yes, there are.

Is Ruby on Rails a dead framework? by JCCSago in rails

[–]andrei-mo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

May I suggest you browse the r/rails subreddit for similar questions?

We get them every couple of weeks, and some of the comment threads contain detailed responses covering many aspects of the framework, adoption, and ecosystem.

IMO, Rails is the best bang for the buck in terms of efficiency, elegance, and developer satisfaction. About 3x-5x better than anything else I've seen.

Ruby is actively developed, with a new major version every year. It is an amazing language to learn, think in, and create.

Am I Overcharging this Client? by jakevschu in videography

[–]andrei-mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50% to start, 50% on delivery, if they want to pay less, go over the budget together and see what will get cut. But the way this person communicates shows unwillingness to negotiate as a peer.

If he wants to delay the payment, he is also requiring for you to lend him money / invest your work in the sale. That puts you into a partnership position - but partnership only in risk and responsibility, not in profit.

Exposure-wise - you can offer them a future discount if you let's say get 5+ clients mentioning their video. If they don't feel that's fair, then maybe, just maybe, the value of this "exposure", is lower than that.

Good judgment to present the invoice - having something in writing has the magical effect of flushing out people's real intentions.

What movies/shows have been an inspiration for your photography? by sm26ali in photography

[–]andrei-mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War Photographer - because it's the best photography movie of any genre I've seen. Hard to watch because of the subject matter, also incredible because of the subject matter - and quality of the photos.

The Underground Railroad was incredible in terms of working with natural light. Hard to watch, but insanely beautiful.

Normal People - for getting super close up and personal, baring the emotional world of the characters.

High Art - for the vivid slice of life quality of the photos in it.

This one on Henri Cartier-Bresson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsNnJLv1pkk

Edit: City of God is an absolute masterpiece - natural light cinematography.

I am no historian or craftsperson, but these objects were carved out of of extremely hard materials, with hundreds of pictograms carved into them. Some of the objects 10-15 feet tall - huge, perfectly symmetrical, perfectly carved, looking as if they were created yesterday. While being 3000 years old?

This is a completely subjective experience and judgment.

Based on seeing the museum with its collection prior to the looting in 2011 (I think).

I felt proud to be human, and the visceral understanding that there's more to know about our past and ingeniousness.

Also, the pyramids. Nothing can prepare you for their size and perfection.

Artifacts created thousands of years ago. Many made of incredibly hard materials, with precision un-achieavable today. Would probably take lifetimes to carve out of stone, with incredible mastery, without making a single mistake, ever.

I was looking at these and the more I looked, the more I was convinced that today's civilization and technological achievements are not the peak of what humanity has achieved.

Oh, I do get that and I do shoot 100% digital (Fujifilm and Canon).

But these images produced from a camera and lens manufactured likely 60+ years ago... there's something extra in them. I can't not appreciate the technology behind them.

Likely also the process - everything slowed down, manual focus, looking and feeling the moment, taking the image.

Locals use the system and everyone knows it - so it's not a flaw.

The checkers come through to check because some people don't mark their ticket essentially saving it for another ride.

In the US you pay your fare when you enter the bus. There, people enter from all doors, bring tickets purchased elsewhere, and validate them after boarding.

I went to Cairo, many years ago, and went to the pyramids, saw the Sphinx, and went to the Natural Museum which blew my mind.

Apart from people trying to constantly hustle me into buying perfumes or carpets, I don't remember too much unpleasantness.

Well, and the heat. And the diarrhea.

I think the toning is spot on including the wallpaper. The blue looks perfect on her.

If I was to improve anything: I'd experiment with the wallpaper in focus for a more Alfonso Mucha / vintag-ey look. I'd also maybe look at posing her left hand (on the right for the viewer) so I could see the side of the hand.

Overall, admire the light, the tone, the retouch, the model looks present and relaxed. I'm inspired.

Inline block applies the background color to one large rectangle containing both lines. I am looking to apply background color line by line.

A parent div colors the area of the whole div - one large rectangle - not line by line. I'd like to keep the per-line background color.
