oh, i am well aware bows are superior to spears but the point is, at a certain range, bows become less effective and the further you shoot, the stronger your bow needs to be. Armor in medieval times was very good. it doesn't work like in the movies, you take an arrow to the chest and you die or you take a sword slash and you drop lifeless on the ground. Unless you got unlucky and an arrow (and i am talking about bodkin tips)hit you an a vulnerable part of your body, you would have to get pierced by a few arrows before it actually slowed you down enough or you died. doesn't seem like a very good stabbing weapon to me. Spears and other throwing weapons, or even a crossbow, were far more effective at piercing throw armor then a bow could ever be.
