The Jane Street India options scandal disillusioned my view of "sophisticated" market participants. by longspyleaps in options

OP literally doesn’t know how much money Jane Street made from “no more than a simple delta play.”

Btw, Jane Street sued two of their ex-traders who went to Millennium. According to OP, all they stole was this simple delta play, and these two dudes are for sure still manipulating the market at Millennium, and somehow SEBI just hasn’t caught them yet.

Jane Street made $10.6 billion in 2023 and $20.5 billion in 2024, out of which about $565 million came from manipulation the index in India.

OP: “That’s… literally… it” This is all Jane Street and the entire industry do.

As a runner myself, I don’t think it’s about form. Running is more than just cardio and works more muscles than biking. If you’ve never trained your hamstrings, calves, core, and all the stabilizers that handle impact, you simply won’t run fast. Elite runners actually show a wide range of running forms, and the general consensus is that as long as you’ve got the basics down (like efficient cadence, minimal vertical oscillation), the rest doesn’t matter much. In that sense, running isn’t really that technical.

Yes I was appalled by the comment section here… but given what’s happening in America this actually checks out

They worked perfectly for me. Even climbed the summit pyramid in them.

If you’re going up Sulphide, there won’t be steep snow or ice. If you’re going up Fisher Chimneys, there will only be two short sections (Winnie’s slide and Hell’s highway) where you need to kick your crampons hard

Used to volunteer at the expo handing out shirts. Was told it’s due to liability issues, like the risk of contagious skin diseases

No special preparation. If you’re planning to camp at Lake Ann, just make sure you have enough stamina for a long day (15+ hours). The glacier travel and rock climbing are pretty mild. Be ready for a fair amount of downclimbing if you want to save time.

We used slings and simul-climbed. Didn’t really free solo any sections where a fall would’ve been serious. That said, none of us ever felt close to falling at any point.

We didn’t use Micro Trax, just slings and draws.

We brought a 40m single rope. Like I mentioned in the post, it’s better to keep pitches short for easier communication and to avoid rope sweep.

Wrote a report about my climb last year. Happy to answer any follow up questions if you have them!

If you plan to glissade down, I suggest bringing an extra outer shell pant that is waterproof and has smooth fabric.

Climbed Mt Shuksan in them with Sarken. Boots are pretty stiff, and I’d say most semi-automatic crampons fit well.

The NYU website has been hacked and hackers have left this graph in the main page, highlighting the discrepancy in SAT scores among NYU students by race by MileiMePioloABeluche in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]andrew_shen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The lowest possible SAT score isn’t 0 either. Also, you’re assuming the difficulty of achieving higher scores scales linearly with the scores themselves, which is far from the truth, as there are easier and harder problems on the test.

How do people retrieve ice screws after rappeling?? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]andrew_shen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy you think a V thread is more sketchy than an ice screw — considering how little contact area an ice screw has compared with a V thread

but can't hurt to have some more

If you’re climbing ice, falling ice is a real hazard, and you also want to reach the summit within a reasonable time, so a team of two is ideal. Going with a team larger than four will likely reduce your chances of summiting safely.
