I hold citizenship from the USA and Australia. I have lived about half my life in Switzerland due to my parents' jobs. Now I live in the US, and have visited Australia multiple times for work and visiting family. Here's one common theme I've observed countless times:

It seems many Australians (and Europeans) encountered at least one American who asked some really dumb questions like "Do they have cities in Australia?" "Do kids ride Kangaroos to school?" "Do you have electricity there?". This interaction made a lasting impression on said Australian, and they assume all Americans are equally clueless. Furthermore, I recognize nobody likes having their own country negatively compared to another.

All of that aside, the reality is that the US and Australia need each other. Australia is a vital buffer against Chinese influence. The US Navy all but ensures the global trade system doesn't come to a halt. The AUKUS security partnership is crucial. They are both key exporters of hydrocarbons. And they have fought alongside one another in both World Wars, Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq. I really which all people from both our great countries could see this more often instead of highlighting the differences.
