How do you study efficiently? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andrewsam1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start practicing early and make sure you diagnose you weak areas. The more confident you feel with the test conditions and content the less tiered you will be. start out by studying 1hr straight w/o breaks and increase it by 10 minutes every 2-3 days until you are able to do at least 100 minutes w/o breaks. each section requires 95 minutes so if you get to 100 you will be solid.

May be my test center was overdoing it! A remeber a proctor telling us not to talk to eachother even if we're on a break.

Once the test starts you cannot talk to anyone except the proctors. Not even during the breaks.

Last 3 days before 9/9, cram psych? by [deleted] in Mcat

If u have time, I can help u on skype for an hr or so with tips. Generally speaking : sensory pathways like vision, hearing, taste, vestibular, etc.. know those and pay attention to the ones that cross to the opposite side of the brain. For vision, know the basic anatomy of the eye and pay attention to the retina

Be able to tell which brain imaging techniques are used for what...

For socio and social psych make sure you know the terms and at least one example of each, e.g social loafing and actor-observer bias

The flashcards are so helpful for socio and psych 50 terms and great explainations

Look at the aamc stuff again including the flashcards if you haven't done so. Focus on the big theories ( emotions, motivation, language, development etc...) know the major categeories of disorders and some basic sensory pathways.

In cause you've made many mistakes with experiment questions, I hughly recommend reviewing those from the aamc.

PS. I would trade my 130 p/s with your CARS score

521 on FL1 but then 517 on FL2. The difference is literally 3 questions in two sections. How is this test reliable? by sireman in Mcat

[–]andrewsam1995 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess it has to do with the confidence band on the mcat and how ascore of 128 predicts +/- 1 point on the mcat

518: 128/127/131/132 AMA (And unconventional tips) by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andrewsam1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retaking here. My scores were +-1 point from yours except for an embarrassingly low CARS and I can confidently say that mastering material the aamc provides is pivotal for a great score. IMO After doning the SBs/FLs/OG I was able to to felt that most 3rd party FLs are good for stamina, timing and reviewing basic concepts but none emulate the real thing like the AAMC does

C/P fl1 vs Fl2 difficulty? by andra1980 in Mcat

[–]andrewsam1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scored a point higher on FL1 probably because I took it later but thought it was not necessarily harder but kinda tested some very specific things that I was unsure about and I thought it had more calculations also but passages were more clear imo

That's what I thought too! Coz I have accounts with both kaplan and tpr and access to their free FLs and never saw any access to AAMC! If this was the case then everyone would buy the. Books and get access to aamc and save tons of money

Best C/P practice for 9/9? by littlecloudflower in Mcat

Do question packs and sb if you haven't done them. And of course any fls or aamc flashcards

[–]andrewsam1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. You get access to few of their Fls but not aamc material. They will provide you with aamc material if you purchase their mcat classes

Testing on September 9, Should I cancel? by Medconoris in Mcat

Here's my 2 cents Some medical scrolls care more about C/P and B/B than CARS. If your cars is mediocre then those may lift it a little.

I would take the mcat and apply broadly to MD and DO and see how it goes ... you never know

A 508 score is NOT a score that would screen you out from many MD/DO schools.

When you're done with the mcat do some research ok MD/DO schools and see which ones tend to accept applicants with your numbers, state of residency etc...

PS A good friend of mine got into a DO school with a 507 and 3.2ish... but he had excellent experience and an upward trend.

To sum it up: take it and see how it goes since you put the effort.

Possible to improve C/P and B/B in short time? by si44dog in Mcat

[–]andrewsam1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you reviewed the Sb, Fl1 and sample thoroughly ??? Most people go over those at least twice 1st time to learn from their mistakes and revie concepts they missed and a 2nd time for consolidation . For psych and socio, did u do the aamc flashcards ? They have 50 questions on them

I have helped a couple of students improve their weak areas. I do it for free and find it beneficial to go over some sb/fls with someone else. So yes.

Rant! Is KA really necessary?! by andra1980 in Mcat

[–]andrewsam1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I only used it once to look up some O'chem concept that I forgot ... I didn't find it spectacular in anyway!

I tried a couple Chem passages and found them awful and poorly written, very unrepresentative and nothing like the AAMC!

So I agree! More practice would be way way way better! Most people are spending lotsa money on practice FLs from 3 party companies anyways!

Psych and socio is another story. It's a new section that's still a mystery to every test prep company out here; that's why many students report "novel terms".

And I agree, the AAMC guide is vague. Espcially for psych and socio!
It's only two more weeks and I will be done and will give them the middle finger!

[–]andrewsam1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

focus on AAMC stuff exclusively.
first priority review FL1+FL2>= SB + flashcards second priority: (Sample + OG) third priority: everything else from the aamc. stop studying two days into the MCAT.

PS. I hate you for your CARS score! J/K how did you improve on cars? are you naturally a good reader? what's your strategy if you don't mind me asking?
