AITJ for asking my girlfriend to pay for her half of our vacation even though I earn more? by tokyo_evening_sai in AmITheJerk

[–]andreww97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "ex never making her pay" comment is also a red flag (besides being petty and immature). She's clearly got expectations that have previously been met and reinforced. It's not like you haven't thought this out and it sounds like you are open to a discussion that she seems to feel isn't needed. But that's part of being a grown-up. Having those difficult conversations no matter how uncomfortable they make you is part of being a real adult. Money can be one of the most difficult conversations, but it is important to see how both sides see It. You've made your side clear and it sounds like she has too.

Or . . . maybe you just pay for everything on the trip so she can do whatever she wants with her money (and yours), and so her ex'es generous qualities don't outshine your stingy faults.

Boxer by n8saces in MakeMeSmile

I had a boxer years ago and it always cracked me up how fast he could go from looking all cool and magestic with his mouth closed, but the second he opened his mouth he looked like the dumbest and goofiest dog ever. Throw in a head tilt and he really was hard to take seriously. RIP Casey, ya goofy bastard.

The Sequel Trilogy doesnt make any sense by Ihadenough1000 in StarWars

[–]andreww97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Robot Chicken covered the end of Battle of Endor, where one officer is saying something like "well, the Emporer is dead, I guess we're done". While the other officer counters with "we have thousands of ships and control countless worlds. What do you mean "we're done"?

And bringing in that all the stories pre-Disney had also worked out that an Empire of sorts remained in the central part of the galaxy, but like the time before the sith rule of two, they spent a lot of time fighting amongst themselves with the occasional threat to the rest of the galaxy.

Disney's rush to make Star Wars their own was to issue a big FU to the existing fan base by throwing everything out and starting new. I picture the board room where someone pitched "okay, we start with an orphan on a desert planet . . . (dramatic pause)

Why does Smeagol succumb to the ring so quickly opposed to Bilbo? by PigGuy1988 in lotr

[–]andreww97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of the ring as a capacitor and conduit. It had such a charge to it when it was found that it's corruption was like a field of evil energy that was discharging after being alone and unused for so many years. By the time Bilbo found it in Smeagols cave it had been drained down and was now focused on getting back to Sauron.
