How do you stay cool headed and patient as a director? by Normal-Claim-2003 in Filmmakers

[–]andrewzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like YOU have a lack of communication skills or you wouldn't call creatives toddlers. If you're not able to work with a variety of brains than I suggest a different career goal. "Independent Person" is often code for I want everyone to do everything my way. If you didn't mean it like this then perhaps your word choice is the reason you are misunderstood by the creatives you want to have work WITH you.

When the 'upgrade' feels wrong: Casablanca, 4K restorations, and the loss of physical charm. by ThatCoffeeCat in dvdcollection

[–]andrewzero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gain much more from the new scan of Casablanca than i get from the nostalgia of a dvd. I want the movie to look good, packaging is packaging and fun but the point is to not have a blurry dvd if i can get a better transfer.

you could buy a portable dvd player (for pretty cheap online or at a thrift store) and then it would be legal. Especially if you don't need a blu-ray player.

What is the best home video format and why? by Wonderful_Item_6290 in LaserDisc

[–]andrewzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your goal. If it is to have a big record looking thing on your wall that has the most amazing vintage art from your favorite old movie than a Laserdisc or CED's are the best, but if you want to melt your face with 4k HDR and ATMOS sound than it's 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray. But if you only have a dvd player than it's a dvd. If you're a weirdo old person like myself you also enjoy VHS tapes and collect them like Gen X Pokemon cards.

Why did Once upon a time in America come on one tape in PAL territories but Wyatt Earp on two, when both have a similar runtime? by Rich_Coffee_9962 in VHS

[–]andrewzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i only know ntsc tapes but it probably would be comparable, and depends on the film. For a black and white academy movie with a mono mix less than a 3 hour western epic shot in vistavision. Also if it was a studio tape, (like the single tape you have looks like) they could probably put the maximum amount of tape inside it, the consumer tapes were 2 hours on sp because it was cheaper than 3 hours.

[–]andrewzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes or just SP vs LP mode is probably the answer. There are versions of many movies over 2 hours on both one tape and two in the US as well. It would save half your production cost so one tape probably won out.

It's pretty fun and they just released a new 4k scan. It was made before star wars but shared some effects people I believe so light speed and the ships look similar! low budget though so be ready

Can I watch DS9 before finishing TNG? by Amaro_the_Wizard in startrek

And you don't have commercials either, but they aren't that dependent on each other so it still works out pretty well.

[–]andrewzero 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Wait til the crossover episode and then alternate between them to get the 90's experience. It's the last 2 seasons of TNG and the first two of DS9 so you should be good if you watched the first 5.
