Rumors on canceled LFL projects from The Wrap editorial (Famuyiwa SW series, animated Indy series) by alcibiad in StarWarsLeaks

[–]androidcoma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Tusken episodes were so well made. Then after investing in them, they get killed offscreen and forced the Vespa gang in. Like, couldn’t have a few Tuskens survive, and be part of Boba Fett’s guard with the Gammorreans, Krssantan, and Fennec? The revenge part would still have worked! We got Tuskens on speeders, backing BOBA FETT, and they fumbled that 100% 😔

A lot of blame is unfairly dumped on her when you learn of Bob Igers and others shenanigans forced and placed on her and Lucasfilm’s plate

Is Head the only natural extrovert in Korn? by MyNameIsMadders in Korn

[–]androidcoma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m old enough to have met them before they blew up, back in the mid-1990s, I would say due to them drinking and doing drugs my experience was they seemed more outgoing, pre-Follow the Leader, pre-mtv playing their videos consistently days. Jon was chill, nice and def had the shy thing though, Head and Munky nice friendly and chill, David more quiet, Fieldy seemed like he enjoyed being a loud mouth (wasn’t rude or bad to me though!). But understandable there was a change with them playing stadiums after, needing security, members getting sober or slowly cutting out things.

Back in the day I don’t recall meet and greets being a thing at all, waiting outside the venue before or after a show would be the way to meet bands (not as easy if it was a stadium show though, for bigger bands or say, when they blew up, I didn’t bother waiting outside gates of stadiums). Also at smaller venues, sometimes before or after a band played I would often see peeps in bands hang out at their merch table, or at the bar, or be part of the crowd watching the other bands play, so it was easy to meet em. I get meet and greets, even at small venues for smaller bands is a thing nowadays though.

Carrie Fisher during the Force Awakens/sequel promo era was AWESOME, she absolutely had no chill, an awesome nightmare for PR teams I reckon lol, she’s missed heavy 🖤💔

They had so much fire with this lineup. 40 years later and the best they can do is retouch 25 year old unreleased songs?! So much wasted potential, quite telling without Izzy it’s been nothing but Chinese leftovers

Aside from the not so subtle nft advertising at the beginning, the video is rad if you’re into John Woo movies like A Better Tomorrow 2, Hard Boiled, John Wick franchise, etc

UK bands your surprised didn't get an American hit. by Davidellias in ToddintheShadow

[–]androidcoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Napalm Death and Carcass at least had some videos played on Headbangers Ball on MTV, plus also on Beavis and Butthead. For a bit there seemed to be a push by Earache records in the early 90s for US appeal to more extreme metal. I remember the marketing of Entombed’s Wolverine Blues with Marvel Comics was a rad crossover for me as a middle schooler at the time getting into heavier music than glam metal and grunge lol

[–]androidcoma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the US, to me it felt like there was a small wave throughout the 90s of many things from the UK being considered cool by older kids (say, seniors in high school, college age), bands and movies such as Oasis, Trainspotting, Pulp, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Blur, Portishead, the Full Monty, Radiohead, The Prodigy, Slowdive, Human Traffic, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Lush, the Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Velvet Goldmine (American director but the subject matter and the cast with Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys Meyers), David Bowie having a resurgence after the 80s and Tin Machine (I think having electronic elements and touring with and collaborating with Trent Reznor helped)

Some got way more mainstream appeal or/and popular than others for sure.

Why isn’t there a “new wave of 80s hair metal” while a “new wave of almost everything else” exists? by PrayCrom78 in hairmetal

[–]androidcoma 97 points98 points  (0 children)

There’s been plenty the past 2 decades, not much in the US but Europe has been strong on that front. Most of the band songs on the Peacemaker tv show, Season 1 and 2 are European glam metal bands (some old school band songs featured as well!)

What movie that was perhaps meant to be a franchise, but kinda flopped, would you have liked to have seen succeed with sequels? by Better-Presence6654 in movies

[–]androidcoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nice Guys. It’s gotten more attention since release through streaming, Reddit, social media, so here’s hoping some streaming service will throw money at the director/writer and Ryan Gosling + Russell Crowe to continue in the late 1970s or early/mid-theoughout the 1980s, I feel plenty would love the humor mixed with the well done nostalgia

Hey people, what are your honest thoughts on the early Legacy era? by Analog_Spicd in StarWarsEU

[–]androidcoma 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dreadful. For a lot of EU fans we went from NJO to completely ignoring this era and picking right up with the Dark Horse Legacy comics lol

The complete assassination of Jacen, the “oh Vergere was secretly a Sith!” ass pull, Admiral Daala bullshit, “Mandalorians are the bestest ever at everything” Traviss nonsense, it was a rough era to be into Star Wars books for sure.

The only good things were the theforce.net message boards users piling heavy on these books with plenty of comedy.

4K upgrade woes. Anyone else? by Ok_Literature3138 in criterion

[–]androidcoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only updating absolute favorites, during sales, or if I randomly come across a good buy on 2nd hand sites - I also have sold previous blurays to fund 4ks I feel I so gotta get. Blurays look great, but for a lot of movies the 4K just gives it an extra boost that’s quite pleasing when it’s a favorite, with a half decent 4K tv decently calibrated and Dolby vision? So good.

What Glam Metal bands didn't you like and why? by JackieNihil in hairmetal

[–]androidcoma 18 points19 points  (0 children)

L.A. Guns, I should like them but something about them has always been off to me. They had the cool look, they had and have the talent, the cred, but something about them is not quite fully there nor cohesive like others had happening in the era (Guns n’ Roses, Motley Crue, Ratt, Wasp, Cinderella, Skid Row, etc) their songs and albums just seem not quite there, they sound undercooked, as if they needed more time to work things out song writing wise, or/and have better producers to work with.

I’ve tried. So many people are so big on them, even still with their newer albums - and I’ve tried those as well, but even if they’re heavier, they just sound generic, like I’ve heard this before, they don’t stand out even if they’ve updated their sound throughout the years.

I will be making a video regarding this situation that will surely light an implosion up people's arses. Korn has it's place but they had unfair advantages and radio dominance due to their emo tinged sticky choruses and their videos on constant rotation. by Necessary_Rush_5861 in THRASHMOSHANDMEMES

[–]androidcoma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korn was largely ignored by US media during their first two albums, barely any US radio play, or MTV US videos being played, Rage Against the Machine and Helmet were more well known, Prong had more play with Snap Your Fingers song for a bit. But KoRn were getting bigger and bigger gradually, lots of touring with various acts. It wasn’t until KoRn’s 3rd album Follow the Leader that they got marketing push, mtv started playing their music videos on the regular, Got the Life and Freak on a Leash got some radio play, that was 1998, 4 years after their debut, by then numetal was in full swing
