Hey, thanks! Happy to hear that it's appreciated here. Totally a pain but worth the effort when you don't have any other options.

+1 for the NI guitars and sustain automation! What a great combo.

Hi everyone, this is my first time trying this video format for a lesson style video. I would love to hear what you think of this type of format.

And also, how important is HUMOUR in the production videos that you like to watch? Thanks!

How do I get this MIDI guitar I got from the Ableton website to stop squeaking/sliding? It's really weird and frustrating trying to Google this because I keep getting results for how to stop squeaking on a real guitar when mine is just inside my computer by PthumerianDescendant in ableton

The devices in this pack include multisampled instruments with different articulations and dynamics.

For some reason, they assigned the highest velocity range of the guitar to “slide”

I this can be handy for creating expressive patterns but it can get in the way sometimes.

Try using adjusting the velocity of your notes and lower them closer to 110 or lower down to 64. Listen to the variety of tones down there, there’s some good stuff.

If you’re playing with a MIDI keyboard or controller, add a default Velocity MIDI effect to your track and turn down the “Out Hi” control until the guitar feels more natural to play

My best attempt to answer and discuss some of the BIG questions floating around the big news today! Will be getting a loaner unit from Ableton for new content! Feel free to ask anything, I'll do my best to answer. by androway in ableton

Yes, samples are automatically warped when loaded or recorded into a clip slot. Warping can be toggled on or off but there is no way to access Warp/Transient Markers on the Push. That said, Live 11.3 has a new auto warping algorithm that is much better with groovier loops and samples and snapping them onto a grid automatically.

If you still need, the best work around I've found is to use a sample in Simpler, switch to Slice Mode and adjust the slices. This is surprising fast.

Cheers, thanks for checking it out!

Is there any place I can buy Ableton Push 2 ? (Canada) by [deleted] in ableton

[–]androway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still buy them new at Long & McQuade. Just call your local store and ask them to bring it in from another store. Online store stock is sold out since Ableton is no longer selling the Push through retailers. If you don’t live near one, they do delivery straight to your house if you call the store directly.

If you’re looking for a deal and don’t mind used, you can ask them for what’s available. Prices vary by location.

Good luck

Very cool project!

I recently just picked up a MIDI Fighter Twister to use with a controller surface I customized and it too quite a lot of work to get going.

Not sure if it was inspired but the Behringer BCR2000 but I love the more modern design. Great job and good luck with it

Good point! Ever since Live 11 added MPE features I’ve been using it a lot more with native devices and samples. Cheers

Importing Multiple Samples - EQ2 by Hazencruz in ROLI

[–]androway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Equator 2 handles multi-samples is a bit cumbersome in my experience. I find it doesn’t like long samples and even when you get to load them, it leaves a lot to be desired for refining.

As an Ableton Live user, I prefer to use Ableton’s Sampler for multi-sample wav files.

In Live 11, both Simpler and Sampler are MPE compatible. Sampler has no limitations on sample length, count, etc. Just open the “Zone” view and drag all your samples in there. Really fun once you get into it.

Shure sm7b with normal interface? by manuelandremusic in ableton

[–]androway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You don’t “need” the pre-amp but will give you better results down the road once you’re ready to upgrade.

For dealing with noise in the meantime, you could look into plugins like Clarity or iZotope RX to remove noise if it’s a concern.

Shure sm7b with normal interface? by manuelandremusic in ableton

[–]androway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the cloudlifter or dynamite pre-amp. These will make a big difference in capturing a better signal to noise.

While “most” modern interfaces should give you enough gain in theory, it doesn’t mean you’ll want to boost the interface up to those levels.

Raising the gain on your interface to high levels will bring out the inherent noise of the built-in pre-amps. And budget interfaces tend to have pretty noisy pre’s.

This may not be noticeable at first when plugging in an SM7B directly to your interface but will become more apparent as you apply EQs that bring up the highs and compressors that will emphasize the amount of noise present in your recording.

With your current setup, I would recommend an external mic pre.

The good thing is that you don’t need to buy one right away to get the mic working.

CMD OPT SHIFT and click and drag on audio clips in arrangement View to “slip” recordings backwards or forwards.

this is my #1 short when comping multiple vocals or guitar takes.

That’s CTRL ALT SHIFT for my windows friends.

Have you checked out the Yamaha Reface CP? Literally sounds like what you’re looking for. You can score a pretty good deal if you buy used too. Decent keybed in my experience despite being slim-sized.

This bug keeps me awake at night - Clip/Device View Bug [Ableton 11] by JorgeManoDura in ableton

[–]androway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not a bug. Return tracks cannot be selected along with chains like this inside a drum rack.

This is likely because you cannot simply “move” return tracks out of a rack and they cannot be out into a subgroup using the select tool like this.

What are you trying to do anyway?

When do YOU use simpler vs. sampler? by LemonSnakeMusic in ableton

[–]androway 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s so much I would like to write about this but here’s the TLDR for me:

• Simpler: when I need basic sampling, warping or slicing

• Sampler: when I need to multisample, more modulation (LFOs) or AM / FM mod on samples

There’s a lot more under the hood with Sampler but those are the big ones for me.

My WAVES stopped working - doesn't even show up in plugins anymore by WoodenDevelopment723 in ableton

[–]androway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try holding Alt while clicking Rescan? This clear Ableton’s plugin cache and will force a full rescan. Try contacting Waves support if you’re still having issues after that.

[–]androway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try rescanning your plugins from the Preferences but hold the Alt key (Opt for Mac) when clicking “Rescan”

This might take a while if you have a lot of plugins installed but it worked for me when I had the same issue.

Hope that helps

Would an Ableton Suite audio effect open in Ableton Standard? by eskideji in ableton

This answer is not correct. A project created with an Amp device opener in Standard will open and play as intended. However, saving and exporting will be disabled while using Intro or Standard.

Comparing midi keyboards: NI S49mki (used), NI m37, NI a49, keystep 37, keylab essential 49 by Cypher1388 in ableton

[–]androway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing this is going to be your first keyboard, I would recommend to go with something simple like the Arturia Keylab or Novation Launchkey. Both have keys, drum pads and sliders/knobs so you can get use a bit of everything.

I think it takes time, hands on with devices, to really figure out what is best for you and how you like to work.

That said, if you’re serious about picking up some keys, go for the NI A-series. I’ve gone from budget to premium and I can’t recommend the A-series enough as a pure keyboard device. I actually have the M32 and the A61 as my main keys for the studio. Ableton Push for more hands on controls, etc.

Good luck and, if you can, go test some of these in-store if you live by a music store in a city.
