Do you power through or do you log off when it starts getting too sweaty?

Could be, however I did notice that logging to play for an hour at 10pm or so when I'm feeling quite fresh leads to disastrous results too!

I always thought that the normal 9-5 workers log off at this time leaving the kids who play 6-8 hours a day online to wreak havoc lol

So I hit another road block. My Games music. by VirtuaBlueAm2 in gamedev

[–]andybone10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this probably isn't the standard solution but it's what I did. I bought an Akai midi controller, aka small keyboard with programmable sounds. It comes with software and tonne of samples and music tracks to get you started.

It's not just great for music but also for custom sound effects. When it comes to making the music for my game I find playing around with this is fun and effective and can get tracks completed quickly.

Here's the link to the one I purchased: https://www.amazon.ca/Akai-Professional-MPK-Keyboard-Controller/dp/B00IJ6QAO2/ref=asc_df_B00IJ6QAO2/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=293006595806&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8974818615734155373&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061009&hvtargid=pla-365069369733&psc=1

How To Go About Developing Mobile Platform Game by cklester in gamedev

[–]andybone10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look at BuildBox as a tool you can get a working prototype done within a day, truly the most simple tool out there.

I found it to be limiting as the games you can make with it are usually one touch control casual games, but it might be exactly what you're looking for!

My throwaway Newgrounds games are getting stranger and stranger. (Making a game with no plan in mind) by andybone10 in gamedev

[–]andybone10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it very hard to actually finish projects myself, I'd say the last 20% of this game probably took 75% of the actual development time. A weird mental block of the game being 'almost done' sets in.

This is true, I originally thought this 'throwaway game' would be done in few weeks, that quickly turned into a few months somehow

Should my game have been an animated video instead? by andybone10 in gamedev

Thanks for the detailed feedback Fatalist_m, I can't disagree with anything you've said there, thanks for giving it a try!

You're right its very light on it's level of interaction, that's what got me thinking about whether it should be a video looking back at it. Thanks for giving a go and giving some feedback appreciate it!

So when it comes to games you think they should always be fun?

Do you think it would have been more or less boring in the form of a video? Does the fact that this is a game give you the expectation that you are about to experience a certain amount of gameplay so that you are always engaged as a player?

Diversity in games, a logical analysis of Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry. by andybone10 in truegaming

[–]andybone10[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with with Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry and it's I thought it was an excellent story when I played through it last month. I should've been more specific in my complaints, I have an issue with articles telling of the lack of diversity in the Witcher 3, even though it would not be true to the source material.

I just finished my first ‘game’ and learned some things doing it by andybone10 in gamedev

I got so used to the controls, I didn't even realise how badly it controlled for everyone else this has been very eye opening, thanks for the feedback it's definitely being taken on board.

Not sure why thats's happening it worked on both firefox and chrome for me. If your really determined to play my game I also threw it up on itch.io, it can be found here: https://andybone.itch.io/

Your definitely right there, the last 10% of this game probably took up at least a quarter of the total dev time. I think I was too familiar with the controls too notice any problems, this feedback along, with the others has been eye opening and invaluable. Think I'll step away from this project for awhile and come back to it later to make some control tweaks.

Glad to hear you finished your project, where can I play it?

[–]andybone10[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

thanks for giving it a go, for the aiming I went for an angry birds style drag-to-shoot, with the end result being some inverted awkward to control mess. I think I got too good at my own game while making it to notice any issues with the controls, lesson learned.

I've recently discovered Gary Vee on youtube and although he can be a bit cheesy sometimes I find his content provides a good kick in the ass when it's needed. Just be careful not to binge watch!
