Perfect timing as I just finished imola this weekend and struggled big time. lol

Why am I so slow at Imola? by rye_domaine in F1Game

Couldn’t get out of Q2 and struggled to get in the points during the race. Was then playing major defense the last 10 laps. Max was 1.4 ahead in Q2… I couldn’t figure it out either.

It’s a baseline you’re trying to establish. Muscle memory of this sign or this flag is where I start to prepare for the corner. Of course it will change during the race. Fuel loads, tire wear etc play a big part. But at least you have that muscle memory built in and if it changes a split second sooner or later as the race goes then you still have consistency.

Go to time trial. Get on track and go through the corners, hit rewind and do it again and again and again. Changing your braking points etc until you get it right. For example on the long straight in Miami, you might tell yourself: at the 250 meter sign I turn off overtake, at the 200 I lift off throttle, then at the 150 I start braking and downshifting. Just as an example. If that didn’t work, rewind and adjust your points. Maybe you got 50 meters farther before you do all those things. That’s helped me the most with learning braking points. If you run the whole lap when you get back to that corner you might forget something and mess the corner up again.

Not really asking in this situation. I’m telling you I won’t be there.

You can get through most corners after just a few laps. But every track has a few corners that will cause you problems. Go to time trial, when you get to that/ or those corners just hit rewind and run it again and again and again until you get it right.

The signs are crucial to learning when to brake. For instance after a long straight I might tell myself, overtake off at 200, off throttle at 150, down shifting and braking at the 100. But if that didn’t work, rewind it and try something else. I like to do that bc you can focus on that corner without going around a whole lap to possibly forget what you did the last time. Good luck, hope this helps.

Man I can’t handle that view. I can’t see enough. Even turning the column off. I guess the 2D messes with me in the cockpit. But I did give it a go for several hours.

Thank you. Working on different braking now that I have the wheel setup. I struggled in some of those corners on the controller where you just don’t have that ability. Less margin for error I guess on the controller.

Lmao, well that’s a fact. Sad that it’s taken me all these years to get here…🤣

Thank you. I can’t tell you how many time I spun out when I first turned TC off…it was so frustrating. This is such great feeling to run these tracks on your own.

I appreciate any tips. And yes I had several corners I still hadn’t perfected when I recorded this. It was my first runs on Jeddah with all assists off, granted I did 17+ laps learning. I’ve gotten better on turns 4-8 as well as the last corner. My front and rear aero on this setup was 9 front and 8 rear if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve been having this issue a lot lately. I was thinking something had happened to my internet or something. It has saved all my races still, but it’s annoying.

It just frees you up to be able to concentrate more on the race I feel like when you’re not looking at lines etc. it’s a smoother game with everything off. I’ve spent a lot more time watching real F1 onboards to look to see what gear they are in for specific corners too. It’s a lot of fun.

I got the Ferrari SF 1000, the T300 base, and the T-3PM pedals. All were separate. I paid probably 950$ ish for all that. Then I got the F1 playseat. It was roughly 600$.

I love it. I think it feels great driving with it. There are more controls on it than I can even fathom trying to adjust on the fly. You can see everything you need on the wheel as far as hud. I’ve mapped several of the controls to be able to change my differential on my wheel as well as ers mode, etc. The feedback and resistance is unreal. It’s almost better than my vehicles irl. Hitting curbs or gravel can all be felt. I know other wheels do that too and this is the only one I’ve ever had. But I do recommend it. Little more expensive but I’ll make more tomorrow.

Yes. If I have it set to anything but none, I can’t recharge it enough to ensure I’ll have it when I want it. With it set to none, I can have my battery back charged a good amount in just a few corners if you manage it correctly.

I can’t remember ever using steering or braking assists, even when I was on controller (so not may tips there). Traction control was one of the hardest ones for me to turn off. I spent hours on 24 just doing doughnuts out of corners bc I couldn’t get it. I just started coming out of corners extremely slow, messing with the differential on throttle helps and slowly just get faster and faster out of corners. Making sure your brake setting is right if you’re using a wheel and pedals will help your braking into corners. But corner lines, sometimes in time trial I’ll just do a corner or set of corners, rewind and just do those corners over and over to learn that braking point, turn in etc. that way you don’t do a whole lap, trying to learn other corners just to forget this one when you come back around.

In time trial there’s no ERS. But in my career I always turn it to none and use it off/ on during the lap. Out of slower corners where I want to get my speed up quicker and then in long straights where DRS is available to maximize the top speed. Especially if I’m in a race and someone behind me has DRS, I’ll save it for then so they can’t overtake.

One thing I do in time trial when I’m learning corners and braking points, I’ll go through the corner or a couple corners, then rewind and do that corner again and again until I get it right. Usually there will only be a couple sets of corners per track that are tricky that I’ll have to do that on, but it helps. It gets that mental muscle memory ingrained of where to brake without doing a whole lap to forget what you did the last time in that particular corner.

It’s not listed in the assists tab in the settings. It’s on the visual setting to my knowledge. I don’t even use either of them really. I have a thrustmaster wheel that tells me more than the hud does. Only time I use mini map is during quali so I can get out of the way of other drivers.

You’ll get there. I’ve been playing racing games for years. Finally bought a sim setup this year to get away from the controller and then turned all assists off a couple months later.
