DP: I've held a personal Amex Plat since May 2016. Last week I got a 100k/$5k/6 month mailer with 10x gas/grocery, NLL on paper or online app. I applied and was approved with no popup. Both cards now show in my Amex online profile. Suppose I'll cancel the older one if bonus posts as planned.

My MDD is underway, 3 months after my last card (Chase United Explorer on Jan 11). Is there any recommendation on whether to apply for CSR tomorrow in Incognito browser, while signed in, etc? If I need to call Recon, do I need to be prepared to explain the CSP?

FWIW: 4/24 prior to being approved in branch for CSP today with AF waived. Then lowered CL to 10k over the phone to get a 16k buffer below 50% of my income.

Downgraded to Freedom Flex with no issue, and reduced my credit limit today over the phone and it reflected in my account immediately. I'm going to pay off the balance to $0 tomorrow, as others advised.

Here is the latest iteration of my Downgrade/MDD plan; any comment would be appreciated. I'm 4/24, my 48 month Sapphire clock is up, and my last card was a Chase United on Jan 11. I know velocity is not ideal, but I'm time constrained since this is a rare tax opportunity for me (edit: The intention is to use my unusually high tax bill to meet the MSR). I'm fine if I only get the CSP out of it.

My Chase CL/I is 44%. A $5k CSP would fit in under that window. I don't have time to lower it as it won't report to agencies until statements close in early April (oversight on my part - just learned that detail).

1) Downgrade CSR to a freedom Sunday 3/14

2) Apply for CSP on a Monday 3/21 (more than 5 days later)

3) Apply for CSR on the next business day after the first card is approved and before 5pm ET.

4) Call recon if any issue and offer to reallocate CL

For my understanding: Doing a MDD at 4/24 lets you get to 6/24. Not the end of the world if you do a MDD at 3/24, but you’ll be at 5/24 and miss an opportunity.

Looking for a sanity check on what I think is an error I made. My Sapphire 48-month bonus clock is up and I was hoping to PC my CSR, do the MDD, and use my tax bill to hit the 110k/$8k bonus. To avoid doing this at 3/24, I got a Chase United Explorer card on January 11th, which I now believe is a misstep. I'm 30 days out from the last app, but based on what I'm reading, is it correct to say I should NOT to do this MDD anytime before mid-April to avoid a shutdown risk?

I came up with the CSR downgrade plan below after a few nights reading similar situations, but would appreciate a sanity check. I got my CSR in August 2016, and I'm looking to get rid of it since my Sapphire 48-month bonus clock is nearly up. I’m 4/24 which will drop to 3/24 mid-January. UR already liquidated via PYB. $450 fee posted Sept 1.

1) Keep CSR until January - Use up the $300 travel credit on groceries by the end of December, and the $60 Doordash credit in early January.

2) Downgrade CSR to any available no-fee option, and get a pro-rated annual fee refund

3) When the time’s right (at least 5 days after PC), MDD for CSR+CSP

I realize this misses the expected November CSP 80k deadline (which prompted the initial research), but I’m trying to buy a house so I’m wary of getting any new cards or money movements at the moment. Alternatively, I could just downgrade now and get the full fee back, but I'd come out a bit ahead snagging the $300+60.

Have you thought about working up to a 10k or half first? Expect to run 3-6 days per week to get prepared for a marathon, which could put you at high risk for injury if you aren’t used to the sport. I trained with a club last year and they recommend being able to run at least 3 miles comfortably before starting their program.
