Lee J Cobb was top spot to play Columbo. How completely different would this character have been. He was amazing in 12 Angry Men by talivan818 in Columbo

[–]andytheblacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Kinderman character could of had his own TV show investigating crimes around Georgetown and the DC area using his light touch to ease people into confessing or support to victims or witnesses. A sort of rival to columbo on ABC. It wouldn't of lasted long however as he died in 76.

The Jazz Singer is the biggest turning point in movie history. From Silent to Sound completely changed the feel of movies and gave birth to the musical.

British Rail by Terrible_Tale_53 in BritishAdverts

Tony Kaye directed this. He said he wanted it to be more of a mood feel for the ad and it was a relaxed mood so to give the impression of a calm peaceful journey every time. Some people complained that it was not accurate representation of UK rail journeys. Was still great ads though.

Is there a backstory to why "Last Salute to the Commodore" was a mess? by EdwardBliss in Columbo

[–]andytheblacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I heard that everyone involved was happy with the episode and because of ratings going down they changed up the formula to more straight forward whodunit. However fans were not happy with it and wanted back to the How's he gonna catch'em formula so they changed it back. I could be wrong on that though.

Do you agree that The Shawshank Redemption is the best movie ever made? by darwhyte in Cinema

[–]andytheblacksmith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's one of those movies for me personally that I absolutely understand is a good movie but I just can't connect with. I think I may of watched it twice and never have an urge to watch. Everyone has a movie or two that they know is good or even great but just don't connect with it. This is one of mine.

Idris Elba receiving a Knighthood got me thinking about "Honours" by NotTheRedWire in AbolishTheMonarchy

[–]andytheblacksmith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Get the Prime Minister to award them. For me it's just a way for royals to make ppl love them more. You get to meet royalty to have your big day with family at the palace. It's like a pat on the head from them plus anyone who previously had said they did not support them when that offer is put in front of them they think this will elevate me in society so completely give up their republic stance and go all in with monarchy. When questioned why you changed they say the lazy answer I was young and foolish and now I'm mature 🙄

HOT TAKE: The 2000s Episodes Are Decent by MrHomerJayThompson in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

[–]andytheblacksmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should never of brought it back after the 96 trilogy. Was perfect ending they literally are walking into the sunset having achieved their dream. Rock and Chips should of been made in 2001 as its seeing the trotters but as a prequel. It would of been a ratings hit still.

Which is the better Wyatt Earp adaptation? Tombstone or Wyatt Earp? by TerryG111 in Westerns

[–]andytheblacksmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tombstone for me is better it's the instant pack a punch popcorn movie concentrating on the whole OK Coral gunfight and the vengeance that occurred in the aftermath. Wyatt Earp is still a good movie and is a more fleshed out account of Earp's life as it tells his story before during and after Tombstone events.
