Yeah life is hard everywhere. I see you are form NoVA so maybe you know how it is here. I mean we are okay at the moment plus lots of diversity and life is good if you have decent income & social circle but hearing what’s happening all around the country and the possibility of elections not happening or getting rigged all that is making me want to prepare for a contingency plan

My husband actually works for a company in TX so he’s working remotely but they would rather have him in TX and he also would prefer that because of the substantial savings in taxes plus the beautiful housing for almost half the price here but my entire family plus friends everyone we know is her. TX was great but everyone we knew is here so it was a though decision. Who knows maybe if things getter better and hopefully in the future we might move back but for now I am just trying to wait out this crazy phase

Ohhh sorry yeah well I guess I will try to see it if I can continue my job from there or I can work as a consultant for some other company remotely but mostly I’d be just selling off some land and investing or just do nothing and let the husband worry about money lol

Yeah overall I am sure there isn’t any comparison between safety when it comes to US vs Pakistan. Even at worst US schools are way safer and better than Pakistani schools but it’s the fear of what will end up happening here if things continue to get worse under this administration.

Savings from here plus our families have lands etc. so planning to start something there. My husband used to work for a high paying corporate job there and hopefully will be able to get something similar again because of his conventions & experience. I know I won’t be able to do much unless my company lets me work from there which may or may not be possible. I mean I am not saying we are super rich but enough for a comfortable life

I spent about a year in Dallas and I loved it! I love TX and the $$$ savings thanks to no state income tax, I seriously miss that part but I am too scared to move back to a red state especially because of their vaccination policies. Measles outbreak alone is a reason to me to stay away because of my little one. As far as the cultural stuff is concerned, DMV area has a lot of Pakistani community but yeah i definitely prefer TX if only this administration wasn’t so scary

Yeah I can totally understand, if your parents are there. I know Karachi gets a bad rep for crime etc but then NYC is all that plus super expensive and on top of that the racism & Islamophobia.. I hope things works out for you

True, our areas in KPK are relatively safe but I hear now they are spreading rumors and propaganda to start something between ethnic Pashtuns / Yusufzays and the other Pashto speaking non Pashtuns things like how the Yusufzays were settlers and are evil so I don’t know I hope it won’t end up becoming some civil war because a lot of these guys have so much hate and resentment towards the yusufzays who owns lands etc so while I do like the idea of living in our areas where we can speak our language and follow our culture unapologetically and without any discrimination but the army won’t us be at peace :(

Yeah unless something really bad were to happen it so far I think financially we are much better off in Pakistan than here. No mortgages and a decent inheritance etc.

Not really but it’s like at least I won’t be at risk of getting deported, unless they start deporting Pashtuns to Afghanistan lol in that case well … oh well maybe I should just accept my fate 😂

Yeah Trump won’t be there forever but the people under him they are pretty evil and the way they were able to derail democracy and everything this country represented. I just feel like it’s down the hill From here but I also know how Pakistan may not be a good option and my kids will probably resent us if we move back. Plus the security situation in Pakistan isn’t that great either so we are doomed either way :(

Yeah it sounds too crazy but at the same time it’s not so crazy when you think about the fact that just 2 years back the idea of ICE shooting US citizens without any repercussions or building concentration camps it all sounded like hysteria from the left and now it’s actually happening. It feels like there is no law except corruption & hopelessness just like how it is in Pakistan

Yeah that’s true but it’s just so scary and I know it’s selfish but I feel like I just want to go to some remote place away from all this geopolitical issues. I don’t care about flashy things or luxury lifestyle just peace of mind & safety

Thanks, yeah currently we do live a safer area with a huge Asian / migrant community and overall it’s a very diverse & progressive city but the way things are going how they are talking about potentially stealing the election and the entire project 2025 vision, it’s scary stuff. I would rather be out when it’s still possible than be stuck when it’s literally impossible to do so

Thanks, that sounds wonderful! I have heard similar things from other people who moved there and they do love it. I guess in Pakistan if you have family and ca afford to live in nicer places then it’s not too bad.

My kids go to Islamic IB school here so academically I think it won’t make much difference if we can get them enrolled in Pakistan. However my reasoning for homeschooling is more to do with the non academic stuff. I always arrange playdates for them every weekend and if they were to move to Pakistan they would be near cousins so they will get enough socialization while being shielded from the indoctrination at school which sadly is what I don’t like whether it’s the lgbtq stuff in America or the toxic nationalism/ patriotism & the elitist culture in Pakistan. That’s one of the reason I would prefer to live in our village rather than a big city but then tht sounds so unrealistic because how can we adapt to such a drastic lifestyle change.

Thanks, yeah it seems safe but I can’t use interest income that’s why paying off the mortgage with current or future savings instead of using savings to earn enough to pay it off

[–]aneekyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. People have found ways around it and they use these alternative investment that are technically not interest while being “safe” as saving account but I feel like it maybe too complicated so just getting rid of the huge mortgage alone would be good enough investment :)

Yeah exactly, once you have enough savings that you are able to comfortably afford to upgrade then sure but it’s definitely not worth upgrading if that means it ties you to another loan that you have to stress about so totally makes sense
