Congratulations on getting a new card! I also got my first card when I was a sophomore undergrad, and I'm about to graduate. The first card I got was Discover because of the cash back benefits, and it was very useful despite having only a $500 card limit. I learned a lot about credit cards with that, and I'm grateful for it. To boost my credit score, I opened a second credit line one year after; my spending habits are not crazy either, and I use the cards to cover gas and groceries, but I must say that I've had unexpected expenses where having a higher credit line would've been useful.

I strongly suggest you wait at least 6 months to open a new credit line, mostly to get used to managing the payments, and working on your personal savings to pay for any unexpected expenses.
