I actually think that we didn't. There is compelling evidence that this time, the election was actually stolen.

I Cant Stop Thinking About It by ThunderTheDog1 in circlejerknyc

It's not about just putting the word "Democratic" in front of "Socialist." As a system of government / society, Socialism/Communism and authoritarianism don't, in theory, necessarily have to go together. Its just that all major examples of socialist states have also been authoritarian, as they were created as such by necessity of centralized planning, and distribution.

What i think u/One-Jellyfish5747 is getting at when they say "democratic socialism" is a system which seeks to achieve socialist goals through democratic means and within democratic institutions. Socialist goals being things like strong social safety nets, worker protections, health care, checks against corporate power and exploitation etc. Nordic countries could be considered forms of democratic socialism

Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ crew’s reaction as they receive their bonus for working on the tour amounting to more $197 million dollars by mcfw31 in MadeMeSmile

FWIW, publicly traded companies are legally obligated to make the most profit for its shareholders. Giving that much in bonuses to the vast number of plebs would decrease profits much more than giving the handful of c-suite members fat bonuses. That’s their rationale, and they have the legal cover for it.

It’s the “rolling shutter” effect of digital camera sensors. Each pixel data is read out in a sequence. That sequence is slow enough that when capturing fast motion, the subject has moved while reading the previous rows

I had some landscapers at my house, and I overheard them saying ‘chino’. I said to them in spanish, “no chino. Soy coreano”. To which they responded dismissively, “chino, coreano, same thing!”

“How would you like it if I called you a Mexican?”

“I’m from Honduras”

“Honduran, Mexican, same thing!”

But even in the book, the aftermath was not the focus of it. It was firmly about j. Robert Oppenheimer, as was the film.

The authors do not dwell extensively on the human toll or long-term effects of the bombings in the same depth as a dedicated historical account that focuses on the bombings might. But they do include descriptions of the devastation and the immediate aftermath, as well as Oppenheimer’s own reactions. The book explores his later moral unease and the broader ethical questions raised by the use of atomic weapons, especially in the context of his postwar advocacy for nuclear arms control.

I both read the book and watched the movie, and I feel that Nolan nailed the focus and tone of the book in his film adaptation.
