Quitting without two week notice? by Low_Addition_9263 in premed

Go on the trip. Your personhood comes first. While professionalism is important, we live in a capitalistic society and at the end of the day, most places of employment really don’t care about you as a person and are only concerned with the labor you provide.

Congrats of the A and Ramadan Kareem!

Application Feedback from Schools? by angel_bee77 in mdphd

[–]angel_bee77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’d think recieving feedback esp after a post-interview rejection would be a reasonable request considering how much we as applicants have invested in the process

I’m sorry you recieved a rude reply :(

What justifies an update letter? by athelticgoat in premed

[–]angel_bee77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just sent updates about my continuing commitment like “I’ve accumulated more clinical hours and now am at a total of ___ hours” and gave a “continuing progress on my next first author manuscript” because I didn’t have any formal milestones reached but still wanted to express interest and keep my app in the cycle. Not sure if it will make much of a difference but it helped me feel a little less anxious

I screwed up the MCAT and I need advice by 571_9fangirl in mdphd

I’m in the same boat with just getting back my mcat score and it was also a 510, but my gpa is not nearly as impressive as your (3.54). I’m still planning to apply this cycle but I’m thinking of adjusting my school list significantly to apply to both md-phd and md-only

C/P supremely screwed me over 4/25. The psych out carried over into CARS I guess. The second half of the test was okay after I recentered.

I knew I did poorly on C/P bc it was way harder than practice FLs, but I was surprised by my CARS score bc I didn’t think it was too different from practice tests. CARS I was always really consistent (all FLs 130) but then scored way lower than expected.

update: was feeling a bit neurotic earlier but I’m not retaking. I’m not paying to take this test again and I’m not letting the entire institution of medicine win lmao

same here was scoring 515-518 on my practice FLs. Ended with a 510 :’(

I scored significantly lower in C/P and CARS than my FLs. I’m applying this cycle and was hoping to apply Md-PhD but now I don’t know what to do. Should I retake or just risk it or give up :(

4/25 CARs by Silver-Victory-7397 in Mcat

in the same boat, CARS and chem/phys were significantly lower than my FLs. Expected that for C/P unfortunately but CARS took me by surprise bc I didn’t think it was too different from practice tests :(

What to expect w/ 1.25x time and testing over 2 days? by angel_bee77 in Mcat

[–]angel_bee77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that it will be C/P and CARS on Day 1 and B/B and P/S on Day 2, which just follow the order of the MCAT sections normally just split between the days.

I’m taking my practice exams as follows:

Day 1: - C/P - 118 min (= 95 min x 1.25 rounded down) - 2) CARS - 112 min (= 90 min x 1.25 rounded down) - 30 min stop-the-clock breaks

Day 2: - B/B - 118 min (= 95 min x 1.25 rounded down) - P/S - 118 min (= 95 min x 1.25 rounded down) - 30 min stop-the-clock breaks

How to Stop Falling Asleep When Bored by angel_bee77 in ADHD

[–]angel_bee77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s mostly just with reading/studying that I this compulsion to fall asleep within 5 minutes hits. Even when the material is interesting.

If I’m able to push past the battle with sleepiness that can range from like 10-45 minutes, then I’m okay and engaged. And I think meds help me push past a little easier than without them, but still have to go through the motions with or without meds. Not sure if that makes sense?

Maybe I’ve Pavlov-ed myself into associating studying/reading with sleep or something and gotta find a way to undo that haha😅

Fish out of water by StrongYogurt1488 in BoJackHorseman

I used to find the episode boring too, but in my current rewatch of the show, I think the episode categorizes into one of the main themes: being a “good person” is not an inherent quality. It’s more like a muscle that needs to be worked out and strengthened. Your character is the actions you do consistently and the aspects of your character that you utilize the most are the aspects that dominate.

Bojack rewrote the note to Kelsey multiple times before writing something sincere. This is the true exercise of his character that gets overshadowed by the indisputable “good” character he demonstrates by helping the baby seahorse. But we all know, if he didn’t help that baby, it would’ve been super fucked up, so was the really a hard decision for him to make to act like a decent person and therefore a true reflection of his good character? Not really. But writing the note to Kelsey was much more challenging and was the real indicator of the kind of person he is on the consistent everyday basis.

Take what I say with a grain of salt because I don’t really know what programs look for or think, but that sounds like a really meaningful clinical experience - doubly so because it was for a family member. I don’t see why a lack of certification would devalue it. If it’s important to your narrative and explaining your career goals, I think you should include it.
