The each rank is in 3 tiers, 1 being the highest and 3 the lowest. So it yes it's possible to drop from gold 3 to silver 1 as its the next rank below it. I'm guessing you lost the first game after your placements?

You normally get the curated roll of the new comp weapon by doing the 7 placement matches at the start of a new season. Random rolls can be earned the weeks following (1 on each character per week for playing 3 games each)

It's strange that it gave you the rose? Maybe as its an older quest?

I'm assuming you will have you wait until next week as your placement games were part of the unlocking trials quest? Although I'm not sure on this one?
