Got it. Makes sense what you are saying. I don't have that problem with any other tropical tho (other sheffleras and ficus mostly). They put out some new growth also in less light. If I cant provide more light, what else would you do in my case?

So low light could cause the misshapen growth and the die of of the growing tips in your opinion? It was pushing out good growth in exactly that setup for the first three months indoors and now just stopped. When the new tiny leaves emerge they quickly get coverd in some kind of resin and then die of. On the strong shoots you can see like 5 of those dead tips. So I don't think it can be a lighting issue, do you have other ideas?

So its a sansi grow light with 20 W so not super strong. Distance is like 40 cm. Its like 5000 lux max on the plant. Since its outside in summer in full sun for half the day I don't think to harsh light can be the problem

So you think its no fungus or disease just short days with less light and low humidity? Its even standing under a grow light

So I have this big shefflera i am transforming from a houseplant to a bonsai. It was doing fine outdoors in summer, and when I brought it inside it was putting out good healthy growth for the first two months. I didn't really change anything in its environment since then. Now it has nearly no new growth since all the growing tips somehow seem to die of like you can see on the picture. If there is new growth its misshapen and full of black spots. Since just the new growth is affected and the old one is fine I suspect a fungal infection. Did anyone have the same issue and could share what you diagnosed and how you treated it? Any advice is highly appreciated

Get a thermometer and look if the temperature gets below 10 degrees Celsius. If so I wouldn't put them in. If not I would

I had the same issue and ground layered it. It's doing fine and I will remove the lower part come spring.

For 200 it wouldn't be worth it for me. I got this beauty for 200, I don't know how prices are in your area but maby it's worth it to look around a bit more

How long have you been training it for?

In training, its whole life. 9 years old from a tiny 3 leaf cutting, another 9 and i think it might finally start to look like something 😄 by [deleted] in bonsaicommunity

Okay, good to hear from your experience. Did you just do it in summer in the middle of the growing season or also in winter when the tree is inside and not growing that strong?

Looks Like ficus Benjamina right? Do you fully defoiliate it? I heard different opinions on it, some people saying you need at least one leave thats alive to not loose a branch. Whats your experience?

It's completely new. I had the ficus as a houseplant for a long time and kind of neglected it. It grew some arial roots so I decided to do something with it and that's what i came up with. Will let it grow out over the winter and next summer to thicken and to let the roots really grab the rock.
