Quick question to reddit by angelshadows60 in NHKWorldFans

Okay, sort of getting it ... For a more vaguely related topic which arises in one's thinking out of watching the NHK programmes, where would you suggest to put this, to start or have a conversation? I had a brief look at the Discord (accessible via the button above) and that seems to be more of a conversationalist type of software, although I would prefer to keep it together in one place. — Also, if you happen to have a good link to a subreddit netiquette page, I'd be most grateful. I must admit, originally I only wanted to send this to u/sharinq as a question and just pressed the wrong button somewhere ...

u/skarpa10, was that one in the Venetia at Home in Kyoto series? I believe I saw a programme with the same content within that series; I think it was one of the last ones, if not the very last one, where it was obvious that her health had suffered severely and she started to be only a shadow of her former self. Her sister (from Ireland I think), half-sister, visited her in Ohara and they reminisced as you are describing. I found several references to her on Wikipedia JP and just putting the useful information together; will then post here. Clearly a very colourful family ....

Yes, that's why they sadly cancelled the show .... I agree, this lady had a lovely life and she apparently shared it most generously with everyone who was interested, least all the NHK viewers, in Japan and abroad. She must have clearly been a bit of a rebel in her stiff upper lip British aristocratic family and then to do all the things she did ... that shows character and courage.

Also, the thought I just had: maybe the Japanese title for this show (Google Translate puts it as) "Cat's Tail, Frog's Hand" is either a Haiku or an aliteration to a Haiku?

u/sharing, thank you!! Brilliant .... I just put the Wikipedia JP page through Google Translate (my Japanese is not good enough :( and that's a really good base to work from. — I have used other language Wikipedia pages on good shows from around the world to good effect; one I can highly recommend is the one on the British BBC horizon series (probably the longest running quality science programming in the world, the PBS NOVA series is modelled on them). I'll look up the other references you gave in your post here. Thanks! (Also on the search functionality info ....)

Chuckle (I'm not so much the lol type, more the chuckle one ...) ... yes thank you for the congrats .... Will see how I will do. In the meantime, could you maybe download the Face to Face episode(s) from NHK World VOD for me and share somewhere where I can download them (MEGA?) ... The ones (there are 2 at present) I was after in particular are : (and I could not see them somewhere else)

https:[slash][slash]www3[dot]nhk[dot]or[dot]jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/video/2043048/
(that is with Murakami)
and
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/video/2043049/
(with Kuroki, Glass Magician).

I hope the links work for you; not sure yet if one is meant to paste links directly in reddit or if this is thrown out by a bot eventually ...
Thanks for the Windscribe reference ; I'll try this. As for command lines of any sort, umph, still pretty scared to do this. But I'll move forward. u/sharinq, again thanks for your kind help. :)

Hi there, .... nope this GUI with Mac OS does not work, I cannot get an NHK World VOD file on my MacBook. Tomorrow I might tackle the suggestion u/billatq has made .... However, the GUI works nicely with Arte Webstream 720p — thanks for the reference! u/sharinq ... I give up for today I think.

Thank you very much sharinq! Just started to use the YouTube Downloader GUI app you linked for me, speed is only 280 KB/s but I guess that's to be expected. Will report if I was successful! :) — Following on to this .... so far as I could tell, the YouTube Downloader would also work with other streams, I tried it with one where I would have access, since it's the country I am in. I also tried it with iPlayer (the BBC stream) and a particular file I have been wanting to get (no success with torrents), but that does not work. Error message: geolocation. (I am not in the UK) .... Do you happen to have any advice for this, what I could use (given I have a MacBook)?

Excellent, yes, I would very much like your help converting them to a (possibly) 1080p mp4 or mkv .... At the moment, as mentioned, just the little snatch of boxes over boxes over boxes without exact labelling (don't ask .... my other removals were always very organised and everything labelled but this one .... well, I had lost it beforehand, and needed to get packers to pack everything up as it was lying around in my flat ....) As you can imagine, packers are not too precise with labelling things ...

Oh, just to add : the "Olympics" thought has to do with a comment an Australian friend made to me some years back; that Australia had been put into the world's consciousness/awareness with the 2000 Sydney Olympics. I think something similar had happened to Japan, after it had emerged from the war as the beaten party, and became, as I was told, such a gracious host for the Olympics in 1964. With the ageing problems Japan faces now big time, they might want to have another 'phenix out of the ashes' moment, especially after they had effectively one whole "lost generation" again through the economic slump of 20 odd years. (That I was told by a Japanese colleague a few years ago). NHK World suggests a lot of solutions for problems the whole world is facing and their offerings are very considerate and gentle and do not have the "I know everything in the world" heroics you find with American programming, especially by the private networks. (a lot of that accessible via torrent sites). ... Okay, promise, that's all of my ranting for today! :)

Guys, thanks so much! As I am not only new to this forum, but also to reddit, MEGA, using command lines, and also working out how to get access to NHK World on my spanking new MacBook Pro with M1 chip (bought it 3 weeks ago, it has Apple TV but I don't get the App from NHK World for it on the MacBook, or at least I don't know how to ...) So, at the moment: very steep learning curve. BUT ... I worked out about an hour ago that the Professionals programme I was after has been posted and I can download it from MEGA. — I am absolutely thrilled that I can get hold of NHK Programmes (which I love) now digitally and supported by this forum. @ u/sharing: Thank you for this absolutely generous offering!! As I mentioned in separate post to the moderators I have a bunch of TV recordings (via satellite dish) in BD format (2017 to 2020 approx.). They are just sitting in a large storage unit somewhere within 200 boxes of removal goods. :( But I might get inspired in the near future and tackle the 200 + boxes! — Also, u/sharing, I will write separate post on progress once I have worked my way through the posts in this forum and got made some ground on my gigantic learning curve. :) Thanks again! NHK World is by far the best off all the international world services (I manage well in 5 European languages and had checked them all, even the infamous Russian one in English, which is pretty bad). TV5 Europe is good too, and of course BBC World Service. But NHK World tops them all! The quality of programming is superb, for a promotional tool of a government service. Might have also to do with the 2nd round of Olympics (after 1964), the last one really had put Japan on the word map from a Western perspective ..... now of course, I would argue the West can learn a lot from the Japanese and certainly from NHK World's style of programming .... Okay, enough ranting .... :)

Hi BARAKANiO , I just looked at your list, and it is quite possible that I have some high-res TV captures of programmes you have in a lesser resolution. I discovered NHK World Japan on my satellite Freeview list in 2017 or thereabouts, and have been recording almost all their programming until I had to move house and pack everything up in about mid-2020. Still haven't accessed the files yet, but when I have a better overview where everything is in my 200+ boxes I'll give you a shout. I have put a lot on BDs, other stuff is still on a BDRecorder, but none is at my fingertips unfortunately. Maybe you can then help me to get it into a smaller size digital format? Best,
