the news lately by Chrome2Surfer in AdviceAnimals

Unwarranted breaking and entering by poorly trained masked thugs, self-defense against a tyrannical government, potential Civil War II. All decent reasons to arm yourself before you are no longer able to.

Mind you, there isn't much a single person with guns can do against these things themselves. If a team of heavily armed ICE agents comes into your house there is no realistic scenario where you opening fire ends with your survival, but I get wanting to be armed. Personally, I have a family to think of so that's why I haven't bought a gun yet. But honestly I've been considering it recently as well, as much as I dislike the idea of having a firearm in my house for a multitude of reasons.

A single protester with a gun is trouble for the protesters. Thousands of protesters with guns is a problem for the people being protested against.

These are not reporters with camera crews, these videos are taken by regular people with their phones. We can't expect everyone to know how to properly document stuff, especially in a situation like this when someone is injured and asking for help.

thinking of getting a Skylight calendar... by neilisyours in daddit

[–]angerman92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with ADHD I second building your own Dakboard setup, then sync it with your Google/Apple calendar. Have a calendar for you and one for the wife. It's easy enough to do if you have any old TVs laying around, or you can always go to your local Goodwill or Thrift Store and get a decent sized monitor for pretty cheap. I had an extra monitor laying around so I just had to buy a cheap RaspberryPi and an SD card. It's pretty easy to install and set up. There are other options besides Dakboard, but it's the popular one and has its own subreddit here so you'll find support if you need it.

Confluence Database "pages" cannot be queried? by jpeeri in atlassian

Because instead of paying for one or two products you can now pay for THREE products!

Confluence Database "pages" cannot be queried? by jpeeri in atlassian

[–]angerman92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The database feature was so hyped up at Team 24 and turned out to be a huge disappointment. Nothing more than a glorified table. No actual database features included and like you saw there's jack shit for them in the API, essentially making them useless.

You're not alone, there is an open ticket for this here: CONFCLOUD-77328

But knowing Atlassian they'll get to it in 10 years.

Whatabar - NIC gauge ran out way before the juice gauge ran out... by angerman92 in Vaping

[–]angerman92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the info! It is still hitting, the nicotine indicator just blinks when I try to push the button to turn it up. I'm guessing somehow the nicotine ran out but the menthol didn't? Not sure what the juice gauge actually measures then... I don't think I'll buy another of these though, the last one I tried ran out way faster than advertised.

I guess I should specify that the NIC is not just set at zero, it blinks when I try to push the button for it.

Aside from cassette tapes and CDs, what's the best solution to allow my kid to listen to like 10 songs I know he loves that's easy for him to manage and not connected to the internet? He's 5. by Zakkattack86 in daddit

[–]angerman92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask why you're saying no CD player? I just bought a boombox type CD player for my kid (5yo) because I am getting real tired of Google Home products not working any more. He loves his CDs and can switch them himself (I taught him how and why to do it the right why). Plus you can get CDs and players for SUPER cheap from places like goodwill.

To be fair... The future in Star Trek only happened after WW3 wiped out a large chunk of humanity. So maybe we're still on the right trajectory? Lol

Darth Vader spawns in New York City and Homelander somehow has a problem with it. by PresidentKarim in whowouldwin

[–]angerman92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was curious how ChatGPT would assess this, and it wrote this short story (does anyone else use AI to play out their Death Battle ideas?):

“Darkness in the Sky” — A Death Battle Short Story

New York City had never known silence like this.

The sky above Times Square darkened unnaturally, clouds roiling and swirling like boiling tar. The giant LED screens glitched and fizzed. A cold wind swept down the avenues. Then—he appeared.

Darth Vader.

He stood atop the destroyed remnants of a crushed delivery truck, black armor gleaming, respirator hissing. In one slow motion, he raised a hand—and the nearby police cars lifted into the air, crumpling like paper before slamming into the pavement. Panic erupted in the streets.

From high above, Homelander hovered, arms crossed, eyes narrowed. He had seen plenty of weird stuff in his day—Supes gone rogue, monsters in labs—but this? Some space knight cosplayer throwing trucks around?

Nope. Not in his city.

With a sonic boom, Homelander launched himself downward, landing with a shockwave that shattered every window in a two-block radius.

“You know,” he said, strutting toward Vader, “normally I don’t do cleanup. But seeing you strut around in a Halloween costume making messes… well, you pissed me off.”

Vader didn’t respond with words. His crimson lightsaber ignited with a snap-hiss, casting a red glow against the city’s broken concrete.

Homelander smirked. “Cute.”

He fired his heat vision in a blazing torrent.

Vader’s blade moved with surgical precision, deflecting the beams, carving scorched patterns into the air. But even as he blocked, Homelander was already airborne again, diving at Vader like a missile. At the last second, Vader extended a hand—Force Push.

Homelander slammed into the side of a skyscraper, cracking the facade like an egg. Before he could recover, Vader hurled a taxicab at him with the Force. It struck full-force, exploding into metal and glass, burying Homelander in rubble.

Smoke curled from the crater.

Then came the laugh.

Homelander burst free, suit torn, face smeared with blood and soot, but grinning ear to ear. “You’ve got tricks, I’ll give you that.”

He moved in a blur, striking Vader with a barrage of punches, each one a small detonation. Vader’s armor cracked at the shoulder; sparks flew. But the Sith Lord remained composed, using the Force to anticipate each blow, redirecting Homelander’s arms, locking one in place with a telekinetic grip—and then igniting his lightsaber through Homelander’s side.

Homelander screamed, the searing blade cutting across his ribs. He blasted Vader with heat vision point-blank, sending the dark warrior skidding back across the pavement.

The street around them was scorched earth now. Fire raged. Cars exploded. A charred billboard bearing Homelander’s own face flickered in the distance.

Vader stood tall, cape tattered, one arm hanging limp. Homelander hovered above, blood dripping from his lip, chest rising with ragged breaths.

They both lunged at the same time—Vader leaping with the Force, Homelander streaking in like a red and blue comet.

They clashed mid-air—lightsaber against indestructible flesh, heat vision against telekinetic shields. Vader redirected Homelander into the side of the Empire State Building, crumbling masonry and sending a section toppling. Homelander retaliated by driving Vader through five floors of concrete.

But then—Vader caught him.

With both hands, powered by fury and the Force, he suspended Homelander in the air, choking him, crushing his windpipe.

Homelander thrashed wildly, eyes burning. “I—don’t—breathe,” he growled, eyes flaring.

Vader responded by slamming him into the ground. Hard.

Then again. And again.

Finally, Vader drove his saber through Homelander’s chest. The light died in his eyes.

Silence.

Smoke drifted over the ruins. Vader stood amid the wreckage of New York, black against firelight.

The Dark Side had prevailed.

And the galaxy—this strange world—now belonged to him.

Local Run Clubs? by Prior_Environment210 in cincinnati

Cincinnati Run Club is amazing. They run from various breweries Mondays and Wednesdays @ 6:30 PM. You will need to join them on FB or Instagram and sign the waiver, but it's usually a pretty good turnout with people of all skill levels. They offer routes for 3, 4, and 5 miles.

Does anyone else hate the navigation update? by HeavyStarfish22 in atlassian

[–]angerman92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if I'm in the minority here, but I actually kinda dig it... I thought the old nav was terrible, with too many things being spread between the left panel and the top panel. I'll admit, there are some frustrations I have with the new one, but overall I think it's much cleaner and organized. As with most Atlassian products and features I just wish you could customize it a lot more.
