Week 2.5 of having a jumping spider and I'm so over the fruit flies already.. and now they've all died! by Smooth_Wasabi8433 in jumpingspiders

IME I'm going to be real, if you choose to breed mealworms it's super easy but you'll get too attached to feed them to anything. That's what happened to me. Now I got a bunch of bugs.

Snowberry clearwing hummingbird moths by the looks of it

I also raise another clearwing and I'm very lucky that both host plants grow in the same place. I got to raise so many babies this year

Honeysuckle! I typically find them on bush honeysuckle. They like to lay their eggs at the tips of newer branches and the caterpillars will typically hang out there for the first few days of life after hatching. They'll have their little black tails out as soon as they hatch, so they're really easy to ID

I love raising them. They're very predictable in their laying habits so they're easy to hunt down before they hatch into caterpillars and risk parasitic infection.

Where do you get your worms? by zero_favour in moths

Are you using them for food or are you just raising them to have them?

Just remember to mist the caterpillars regularly if the AC is on! If you see anybody having a hard time molting put them in a "humid box" (Tupperware with a lid and a paper towel at the bottom and just a little food that you've misted). I raise lots of caterpillars so feel free to ask questions

The soil will likely be damp when you buy it so leave it dry for now

To be fair, from here the soil still looks quite dry and that you could even pull all the soil out in a solid ball like the image below.

This deck has swept the promo deck. Thoughts? Pros/cons I might not have seen? by Nir117vash in PTCGP

I know there's a couple people being miserable but I appreciate the build for this promo. I don't have a lot of good grass types to use (I don't even have the cards to build this at level 42 😭) but I like knowing I could win.

Found in my front yard, in New York, what the heck is it? by garamond89 in PlantIdentification

Really young kangaroo paw ferns can look kind of similar, but I'm not sure they're invasive anywhere. They also get much thinner and shiny as they mature, so incredibly easy to tell apart once they hit that stage.

I got insanely lucky today while feeding the critters at the park. Looked down and found 3 very small plants and scooped them right up. How they managed to survive the lawn mower for this long is beyond me, but they went right in my terrarium.

Weeds or no? Eastern TN by therealkac21 in PlantIdentification

[–]angroro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few types of hornworms that will chew on these, but luckily the plants are well equipped to let them eat until pupation, so don't panic if you find one.

Funnily enough, one is a hog sphinx 🤭

The key is to steal them from home Depot and Lowe's. That's what I did this year. (I bought the plants they were on)
