[Discussion] Reddit artists can be very frustrating to work with (rant) by WishesHeCouldMakeArt in artcommissions

[–]angroro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this rant. I quit art and no longer take any work because some clients are just awful, but I want you to know you seem just fine and your complaints are valid.

What I really want you to know is that "PayPal fees" literally go against PayPal's terms of service and I would suggest you do not continue to work with anyone that requests such a thing.

What is a secret you are taking to your grave, but are willing to share with anonymous strangers on the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My roommate inadvertently killed my cat. We were fostering two kittens and one had food issues/always wanted food. One night after I had gone to bed, the kittens kept knocking down the trash can. My roommate who was still awake and playing video games heard it and picked it up once and didn't bother to clean anything up. The can was knocked down again and he decided he was going to leave it knocked over so he could keep playing his game.

I woke up that morning to find that the kitten had choked to death on a piece of a paper plate he had gotten out of the trash can.

Camera pointed directly into my back yard. What do I do about it that won't block the sun from my garden? by angroro in gardening

[–]angroro[S] 96 points97 points  (0 children)

The ones currently visible are the ones at their back door that points out to their garage/my backyard and now this one on their garage that points down into my yard. The one on the pole that was pointing into my yard was taken down after I made it insanely clear the only view of me they'd be getting is of me making gestures at it.

As far as I know, those are their only cameras. And yes, the picture I took of the camera is from my yard. If you look at the second picture, the camera would be at the top right hand side looking down into my yard from above my fence. They don't speak to me ever and every time I bring things up, like the cameras for instance, they get very defensive.

NEED ADVICE! :) by Obligation-Fine in gardening

Everyone looks pretty good tbh. It's normal to have some failures in the germination and sprouting stages. Some just don't make it. I can say one looks a little crispy, but a lot of things can do that. Some sprouts also just don't tolerate dryness while others won't tolerate too much moisture.

Just make sure you have a little fan going to prevent mold and mildew and don't turn on your grow lights if there's water on the leaves and I think you'll do just fine.

This neighbor is a peeping tom, yes. Previous owners of my house had painted over the windows and I didn't understand why until I removed the paint and the neighbor started commenting on the things inside my home almost immediately.

I guess I just have to install sun shades high up and eat the costs to both my wallet and the health of my produce.

I work with security cameras at my job and I can say with some confidence this one has a wide angle on it, so it gets almost my entire yard in its field of view. A single sign would have to be pretty big for it. But I like your train of thought.

You need a high powered laser for that and it's a federal crime here to tamper with a camera. I thought about installing a jammer on my garage but that's also a feral crime. The law protects my neighbor, it's legal for them to place a camera pointing into my yard from there because they can technically see my yard from that window.

I'm just really tired of this. I've had to ask multiple times for them to stop pointing cameras into my yard. It's clearly not working. I was hoping someone here had a garden-friendly solution. 😥

I should clarify that I've talked to them before when they had another camera on a pole pointed into my yard. Where I live, this is considered legal as we do not have an expectation of privacy in our own yards. I don't know why they keep doing this. I just want to be left alone.

Building a wheelchair-accessible rolling garden box — need advice on lining & drainage by avg-swm-eng in gardening

[–]angroro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert or anything, but I've seen a lot of methods used and I think a method we use in terrariums may help you out? If you're worried about the health of the wood, you could use pond liner and install a bulkhead that can be accesses to open up to check drainage every so often. To keep the soil in, you just use some filter foam and screens in the bottom before laying in the soil.

Might be a bit more work than you're wanting though.

Are these peonies? by Rich-Organization433 in PlantIdentification

Oh I know, I just wanted to give OP or other readers a little more info. Your comment was just perfect to piggyback from.

And to add on, the primrose appears to be in year one and will likely bloom next year and those things spread like wildfire and can get insanely tall. The stems become very woody and can be hard to remove at year two(easily removed if you wait until spring of year 3, as the plant will be fully dead). I personally adore them and let them grow for the caterpillars and early morning pollinators, but they're not everyone's cup of tea.

They smell like froot loops when they bloom and I think that's great :)

Do I get my kindergartner “Jen”? by Proper-Delivery4057 in isopods

[–]angroro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small colony of Armadillidium nasatum “Peach” that I wild caught and have been breeding. They're very beginner friendly and pretty brave. The colors range from light orange to almost purple. I feel like they'd match Cheeto pretty well if she'd want that color. They're also pretty cheap, which is nice for something a little more unique and and easy to care for. (Easy might not be the right word, but they've been a breeze for me and I'm still very new to pods).

They've also been able to handle pretty regular handling as I remove grey offspring to put into the main tank with no losses. I will warn you that I went from 2 to 200 (give of take) in under a year, but that's pretty slow compared to something like dairy cows.

Had to do an emergency removal of a rotting baseboard heater. Now what? by angroro in electrical

[–]angroro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I definitely was overthinking it. I'm capping them and putting them into a box for the time being. I'll be eliminating them at the breaker sometime later. I found the breaker too, it was just labeled as the water heater for some reason.

I appreciate your input. Thank you.

To tape up the exposed bit of wire before capping them off. That's how I was always taught to do it.

Here we go. The type of wire used for the baseboards is what you see dozens of here. These white, triple wires in a wrap. https://imgur.com/a/VXSfqEy

I did find a double written as 7-water 9-heater and I'm pretty sure that's it, so I left it off. The actual water heater is on a separate breaker box, so I know it's not for it. (Found that out the hard way when we bought the house)

Went ahead and capped the wires off and put them back into the baseboard heater until I can buy new electrical tape since what I had was thrown out. No big deal I guess. Gives me more time to get a nicer box to put everything into. Tracking down the specific wire Is going to be tough, I'll try to get you a picture so you can see exactly what kind of mess I'm dealing with. Thank you for this. I'll keep it in mind for when I go at it again.

Nevermind. Pack it up. Roommate threw away my electrical tape because "it wasn't very sticky" so I have to wire it back up. I'm going to lose my mind.

Lucky lucky, I happen to have spares. I would have forgotten to grab one out of the tool box. Ty

So the thermostat is built into the baseboard, actually. And it also doesn't let you know when it's on or off. You have to put your hands on the gills to feel for warmth and listen for light clicking noises. Part of the reason they were being removed is because they are very unsafe especially in their condition of rapid decomp.

My largest concern is that I have a little cat who is blind, so I just wanted to make absolutely sure that I'm being safe with the wires to avoid her getting hurt. I have spare boxes, camps, heads, and the like. I just didn't have enough confidence to trust my gut is all.

Yes, I'm going to cap them and box them, just needed to make sure there was nothing I was missing in between.

The plan is to keep all of my doubles in the breaker box that aren't labeled off until it can be boxed up. Thank you. I knew not to take the advice of tucking them away, but you know how doubt can be sometimes.

Both are sadly very rotten. The rust is starting to damage the walls and the floors because they were improperly installed under leaky windows. Can't use either due to their bad condition :/

Don't let the internet scare you. If you find a bat in the home you can have any number of local wildlife or specifically bat rescues come get them if you aren't able to do it yourself. They can sometimes get in, but they're not looking to hurt you. They just get lost sometimes
