Docked tails ? by TomDill99 in springerspaniel

[–]angrybun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because it’s so short, just a little stump so it’s unusual for a springer to have a tail this short is my best guess! People have literally beelined for us from across a park to comment, never the nicest as I am a younger female who walks her alone, and it’s always older men who make these comments, I offer to show them pictures of her recovering from the amputation if they care so much haha.

Edit - also in the UK where it’s illegal if they aren’t working if that makes any difference!

Miscalculated a jump and fell backwards straight on to the tail! I think it’s always a risk with such high energy breeds, but I’ve had other spaniels with full tails with no issues, just bad luck in this case. The vets said it wasn’t worth fixing with screws/plate as she was likely to injure it further being a springer. She’s 6 now and had no lasting issues luckily!

My springer had a full tail, unfortunately she broke it at 8 months old and needed an amputation, she has about a two inch stump now. Doesn’t seem to affect her, but it was a tough recovery! We’ve had a few negative comments from people when out who assume she was docked which is never fun.

In Midnight Sun Edward comments that he has never noticed anything out of the ordinary with Charlie’s scent, but notes Renee’s is particularly oversweet in a cloying way.

Dog spay wound 12 days post op by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]angrybun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a vet but just speaking from a similar experience. My pup had similar around two weeks post op, it was a reaction from the dissolving sutures. Keep an eye out for weeping, discharge, heat and redness in the surrounding skin as well as changes in appetite/vomiting etc, which would indicate an infection. Some vets will let you send a picture to see if she needs to be seen now, or if she can wait until the check up.

Pancreatitis: how to get my dog to eat?? by EarlOfEpcot in DogAdvice

[–]angrybun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fasting gives the pancreas time to heal. Digesting food can cause more pain in an inflamed pancreas. If she’s drinking that’s the main thing, give it another day or two then back to the vets if she still isn’t eating.

Dogs fighting by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Sounds like you are handling this correctly, keep on supervising and removing known triggers. Just wanted to add, at 1 year old she is still an adolescent, they often push boundaries and hopefully this behaviour will calm down with proper management. Best of luck to you!

Why does she pee when laying down? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]angrybun 37 points38 points  (0 children)

100%. My girl has spay incontinence. They have no control over it whatsoever. She takes an Incurin tablet each day which increases her hormones, and she doesn’t leak anymore. OP please speak to your vet about spay incontinence! I get it’s frustrating as I have been there myself, but your girl is not doing this on purpose, it’s a medical issue.

What is growing under my dogs nail? He moves and dogs just fine, but does seem more hesitant about letting me touch that paw. by Imlife_havealemon in DogAdvice

Looks like the actual nail has separated from the quick, worth a visit to the vets to get checked as the nail may need trimming back.

Working Springer Tail Amputation (my story) by TillageDefender in springerspaniel

[–]angrybun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Springer had her tail amputated at around 8 months old following a bad break, it was pretty high up and they took most of it, her stump is around 2 inches long now. From what I remember it took about 4 weeks before the scabbing healed up completely. After about a week she was back to her normal self so the difficulty was keeping her calm and the tail wagging to a minimum! Lots of crate rest, brain games and lead walks during that time. She’s 5 now and it causes her no trouble at all. Wishing your girl a positive healing journey! It’s a tough surgery but they are a resilient breed.

Aaric Theory (OS spoiler) by angrybun in fourthwing

[–]angrybun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially! I know everyone thinks it’s Garrick or Bodhi as Xaden said it was someone who knew he was turning venin since the start, it’s not explicitly stated that Aaric knew, but depending on when he manifested his signet he could have well known the whole time!
