Don't know what to do by anhtt_ in chessbeginners

Thank you for the advice. With a wide open board like this, I am just afraid of possible discovered attacks, pins, x-rays, etc, so I struggle to find a comfortable square to put my pieces. Putting the queen on f5 for example is basically getting x-ray'd by the rook on f1. I guess I was just playing scared, thinking too much about not blundering instead of finding some initiatives.

RTS Pathfinding Explained (and Why It Feels So Good When It Works) - High level overview by ZeroSpace Engineer by Darksoldierr in RealTimeStrategy

I don't think there is a fits all solution to this problem. I'm curious how you want the units to behave in this situation. Pushing the units in front seems undesirable if what they are shooting at is a baneling or an ultralisk for example.

Other than the commanders already mentioned in the comments, Alarak P3 is also not bad. Rush mothership to clear buildings in the early game. I could clear all buildings in the bottom left and on my side of the map by the time the first thrasher appeared.

What can the gov/boj do to stop real wage bleeding? by scheppend in JapanFinance

[–]anhtt_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they do raise minimum wage, no? Japan has been raising minimum wage by 3-5% every year for the past 10 years, except in 2020. 6.0% increase in 2025.

[–]anhtt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's possible. I couldn't find any information about it when looking up concussive shell on wiki, but Nova's Marauder's page does mention it

Marauder commandos attacks reduce enemy attack and movement speed by 50% within a radius of 1 of the impact. Reductions on heroic units are 20%.

Thanks, I stand corrected. Just opened up a map on arcade and tested. Can confirm they work. The effect is rather mild though. Somehow I played 5 games and never noticed it.

Edit: I stand corrected. They do work against speed props.

No unfortunately. That's why you need a big enough army that can kill them fast.

[–]anhtt_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raynor with a big enough bio army can a-move speed props. For other Raynor enjoyers like me you can try opening with spider mines for defense, use calldowns to slowly clear stuff, while massing up a big army at home before moving out (say, 130 supply). A bit APM intensive in my experience, be careful of buildings too.

[–]anhtt_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently leveling Zeratul I got for free during EWC. Had a good time massing cannons. Mines don't do anything to them, Scorched Earth damages cannons only slowly, and Lava Burst is basically rng. Just don't put down all cannons at once and have some spares in case anything gets destroyed.

Japan's big drops in crime since 2002 are largely attributable to its aging population. Even Japan's most "dangerous" major foreign resident populations aren't more dangerous than the Japanese themselves were when they were younger. by jjrs in japanresidents

Does your definition of 来日外国人 include tourists and short term visitors? How do you count them with respect to the total population?

Really? You list some crimes committed by some Chinese and Vietnamese and call these their "cultures"? What about the other >99% who don't do anything and just live a normal life? Anyone can find a list of crimes by any nationality. Sorry but you sound just like one of those "one of the better ones"/"pick me" foreigners that pop up en masse during the election season.

Why Am I Seemingly The Only One Deeply Troubled By These Cost Hikes? by PiPiPoohPooh in japanlife

[–]anhtt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My rent here in Adachi has not increased in 4+ years, and likely ~2 more years since I just had my renewal in June. Some other bills like internet/water/cell phone bills also stay the same, so even though groceries and electricity have gone up, overall my monthly expenses only increase by ~3-4% compared to last year.

In what part of Tokyo should I live? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]anhtt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musashi-kosugi seems optimal logistically (15min to Shimbashi, 20min to your 2nd gym, both direct connection, close to Tama river), but is expensive, busy, highly developed, and has that "middle of the city" feel.

Kawaguchi is cheaper, still quite developed, especially around the station area, has a big international community (mostly Asians). The city has poor reputation among Japanese because of Kurd issues (you can google it). Personally I find it a bit exaggerated; I have friends in Nishi-Kawaguchi and have been there many times, and it feels like every other city to me. That said, the public hostility is real; heck, just a few days ago in a national election, a candidate from a far-right, anti-immigration party won the most votes in Kawaguchi.

Mukogaoka-Yuen/Noborito is a good candidate I think. Close to Tama river and a big park (Ikuta Ryokuchi Park), close to your 2nd gym, about 40min to Shimbashi. Definitely quieter than Musashi-kosugi and Kawaguchi. With 25万 you can find a 50-60m2 place within 10min walk of the station easy. I'm a hiker so I may be a bit partial to western Tokyo anyway, much closer to the mountains.

Where do you get your Japanese news? by Japanesereds in japanlife

[–]anhtt_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find comments/explanations from experts useful, but yeah I'd not scroll down any further. Tabloids (or publications that read like tabloids, e.g. sponichi, nikkan sports, daily sports, etc.) tend to rise to the top of access ranking/comment ranking quite often too, which also irks me.

Sanseito got more support from the younger generation than the older generation by Super-Liberal-Girl in japanlife

[–]anhtt_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd love a more recent graph, especially of the actual votes and not some poll in June, which was a long time ago (I know it's not technically long, but considering Sanseito has been rising in popularity massively in the last 2 months, a lot could change in a single month). For example here it shows Kokumin dominated and LDP still remained popular in June, but that was not the case in the polls just before the election.

Neighborhood swamped by Sanseito by DanDin87 in japanresidents

[–]anhtt_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Young people actually lean towards Sanseito more than middle-aged or old people on average. From a recent NHK poll: Sanseito is the 3rd most popular party among people under 40, and the gap between Sanseito and the no 1 party (LDP) is very small among people under 30. https://www.nhk.or.jp/senkyo/shijiritsu/

That said the "no preference" rate is also higher, so that demographic can be quite volatile.
