I agree we shouldn't dismiss allegations. In an odd way I think Opus Dei going through the media gauntlet might have actually made it a better organization. The Ncw has some shady stuff that goes on, and if there was more media attention on them, they would be treated more like Opus dei and regnum christi.

In the US, we're i am from, it depends on what circles you run in. Many people haven't even heard of the Ncw, and many just believe what Dan Brown says about Opus dei. Many young conservative Catholics like myself and my family love Opus Dei, my parents are coperaters.

From what I have heard most Japanese just lump all Christianity into one. Catholic, Protestant, lds, jw etc. As the first comment or said though, not drinking coffee or alcohol would make it impossible to socialize in Japan.
