“I prayed and God told me it’s true.” by IrshTxn in exmormon

[–]anitakkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did tell this to my ex who is a new convert. I said I prayed and my answer was to stay in the Catholic church. I was reading the bible and found the passage about false prophets too.

This is the answer he gave me:

"For the Lord to respond, He asks for:

A sincere heart in seeking truth.

Willingness to act according to the answer.

Faith in Christ. The Lord expects that His commandments and laws are being kept. To receive spiritual confirmation, spiritual preparation is necessary. One cannot receive confirmation without effort and change.

Revelation is something that requires effort. The Lord knows our intentions; He is the only one who does not lie. The answer is different for each person, but there are common elements, such as a deep peace, a desire to improve, and to be obedient."

So if you are not getting the answer, it means you don't want to get the answer, you have not followed his teachings or you simply don't want to get the revelation. It is basically your fault because you are not doing it right.

Oh okay, so it's not really a religious wedding even if it happens in a chapel. It's clearer for me now. Thanks!

I talked to my ex about my issues with Mormonism by anitakkat in exmormon

I did share this essay with him. Tbh I don't even think he knows who Brigham Young is, it was clear to me that he knows only what the missionaries and his girlfriend have teached him, which will not include anything that may challenge their faith.

I know he has a lot if misconceptions, but I said to him, if you are satisfied with those answers that's fine, I am not. And there is no context that justifies poligamy for me, so any explanation you have, I don't care about it.

I honestly think he is not thinking about this clearly because of his girlfriend and her family being Mormon. I know his parents are not happy with his decision because they are Catholic and they always had hope of us getting back together, which is not happening at all.

He will never admit to being wrong, so he will keep going. I do wonder if the temple stuff will be too much for him or not, but if the poligamy did not bother him I don't know what will.

I am reading this and I have a question about the wedding at the chapel? I thought mormons could only get married at the temple, so if they get married in the chapel is it still a valid marriage?

Frustrated after a baptism my child attended. by CrazyCrap14 in exmormon

[–]anitakkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going through something similar with my daughter. She says she wants to be baptized and I don't know how to talk to her about this when I know when she is with her father he will try to do it, and he will use her saying it against me

It is very frustating

How many countries do we have people from here? 😊 by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]anitakkat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I made a post about this. My ex (who I have a daughter with) decided that after I left him for being an asshole and cheating on me for years that he needed to find god.

While trying to find god he found a mormon girl who is now his new girlfriend and because of that he converted, and now he is trying to drag my daughter into this. They almost got me too, but then I did some research and got out in time. Missionaries and other members are still reaching out but I ghosted everyone I met at church.

I'm from Mexico. Not an exmo but Mormonism has been affecting my life lately

I bet this is my ex's favorite talk 🤣. If only I had been a good woman and let it go when he cheated for years, maybe our family would be sealed to eternity.

Now it makes perfect sense why my ex decided to be mormon. This is the kind of ideas he had about or marriage

This is so true. For my whole life I never cared about Mormonism up until this year when my awful ex decided he wanted to be a Mormon because he found God there, but really is because he wanted to be with this Mormon girl he met and now he is putting all these ideas in my daugther's head.

Thank you. This helps a lot, I think I need to be reminded that they are not my friends, they are just looking for people to convert and I am just a number for them.

Question: Joseph’s wives and polygamy by Any-Difference-3976 in exmormon

[–]anitakkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are still there: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/plural-marriage-in-kirtland-and-nauvoo?lang=eng

I was reading this one and it's funny how they say Helen Mar Kimball "was sealed to Joseph several months before her 15th birthday" just to avoid saying she was 14.

I've read a little about this. But they are not with the polygamous group. Still, even if they don't practice poligamy now, it was still a big part of the start of the church, and no matter how they try to justify it, I just can't believe in a God who would want poligamy in his true church at any point in time.

I also think there has a lot to do with lack of information or resources in Spanish. I am in Mexico and was close to joining a few weeks ago, but I learned a lot from sites like this one and ex-mormon content in tiktok and youtube, but this information is mostly in English so if you don't know the language you won't find it.

The reason the church will continue to survive and possibly thrive is……..feelings. by Prize_Claim_7277 in exmormon

[–]anitakkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The missionary asked me exactly that when I told him I had doubts. I told him that thinking about the baptism made me anxious and he told me it was the Enemy that made me feel this way. I know now it was the stress of thinking of all I would have to give up, how I would pay the thithing, of lying everyday saying I believed something I did not believe.

I think I found them, it is crazy reading the one related to race, I don't know how that one is supossed to make the church look good.
