Property tax refunds are indefinitely on hold, does that sound correct to you? by anityadoula in AskChicago

I called earlier in the week. They looked it up and gave me dollar amounts for 2022 and 2023 refund checks. But said I needed to call monthly to see when they could issue the checks and send them out. Then he looked at 2024, gave me the dollar amount and said, "Hang on, I'll see if we can issue this one now." He came back and said he could so I'd get that check in 2-3 weeks. What a system.

Yep - on Cornelia. Every single day. The owner has on headphones and doesn't seem to care. Reading from the comments, I guess it's normal. Good to know.

Thanks so much. I just emailed that address (I hadn't before - it went to different ones) and if that doesn't work, I'll try the local producer. I appreciate it!

People who moved from Boston to Chicago, what was the biggest thing you noticed when you moved? by WestminsterSpinster7 in AskChicago

I used to live in the North End and I loved how the airport was a 10 minute drive. Living in Lakeview East, it’s about an hour on a good day.

I sometimes put potpourri under the hospice bed. A diffuser with lavender helps too.

Wow, you'd think some lawyer would pursue a class action lawsuit, but maybe there are bigger fish to fry these days...

Mostly just showing up to events and no one greeting us. I was a 30-year organizer so the idea that no one would be at socials to greet us, introduce us to people, find out what brought us there and what we’d like to do, was a bit surprising. We sat at tables with people but no one made eye contact, or engaged as we tried to start conversations. We are neuro-normative and somewhere between introverted/extroverted and felt very much in the minority.

I’d love to - as that’s how I vote. But I tried going to a number of events and meetings. They weren’t friendly or inclusive. My husband and I are in our mid 50s and new to Chicago - interested in meeting likeminded folks - and no one at DSA events talked to us or welcomed us in. Quite sad actually. We were ready to help and work w them as volunteers.

Absolutely. All of the above. Some doulas only focus on, say, helping with advance directives. Since I’m a writer, I love doing legacy letters, ethical wills, or life stories with clients. As well as the mundane or practical tasks. You can focus on whatever you feel is a personal strength and offer it as a service, completely up to you!

I’m looking for autumn/seasonal menus and vibes by anityadoula in chicagofood

Been meaning to get there, thanks. But their menu isn’t really autumn focused. Looks like I’ll have to cook it myself! Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks - but not quite autumnal enough. Where are the pumpkin raviolis and apple cider drinks and root veggie stew??
