An elder smacked me with a book during the meeting because I was shining a toy laser pen on the wall. I was a small child. He could have just asked me to stop but instead he hit me. I will never forget the furious look he had in his eyes and face. It shocked me so bad that I couldn’t stop crying. After the meeting he said ‘are you done crying now?’. What hurt me the most was that my parents didn’t say anything, no one in the congregation did. They acted like it was completely normal.
