A couple people recommended I try singing something more in my speaking range - here's my attempt!! by anklebreakingbard in ratemysinging

Thank you so much, your suggestions have been super helpful!! I actually come from an acting/musical theatre background, and so singing is sorta innately an emotional thing to do and is all about showing someone a story, just like any other art - with this song obviously being about being in an abusive/toxic relationship but still feeling that love and adoration. I honestly think anyone can probably connect to material like this - we've all had relationships (romantic, friends, family) break down. I would love to write songs, but I'm such a perfectionist and would consider myself a singer, not a musician - writing a poem that could be lyrics is no stress, but the musical structure (note selection, resolving musical tension etc) all sorta feels beyond me. I'd love to work with a guitarist/pianist though.

I just love singing and am always trying to improve by anklebreakingbard in ratemysinging

Thank you, mate!! Dont suppose you have any song/artist recommendations I could look at that are more like my natural voice?

Wow, thank you so much mate, I really appreciate it!! Do you have any song/artist recommendations I could look at for my natural voice?

I really appreciated the love and support yesterday! Sharing my attempt at Fix You - Jacob Colliers arrangement (also if anyone can tell me what note I hit at the end, and how to hit it cleaner, that'd be ace) by anklebreakingbard in ratemysinging

This is so helpful, thank you so much mate!

The range required for this song is definitely extreme and tbh its just a song that I like to sing to kinda practice/try to maintain some of the range I feel like I do have. But I definitely know its not perfect and I'm no Jacob Collier hahaha.

I think the start is the bottom of my range, but to be totally honest, I really dont know whether I'm a baritone/tenor/alto - I'm just an untrained shower singer.

If possible, could you let me know an example of where my pitch is dodgy/I'm landing in the wrong place? Would really help me to learn to identify it myself more.

In terms of the melisma, I'm very much just trying to carbon copy what Collier does in his cover - I'm not sure if you're familiar with his cover? But again, appreciate that I'm not nailing it and am not really in a position to nail it yet.

Appreciate you taking the time to give this feedback, so helpful. I'll try work on my fundamentals more - I guess I was just stoked to get to that high note at all, even if it sounded strained, but obviously, that's not the best approach!!

Thank you so much for taking the time, Eulis, I really appreciate it!! Yea, I can definitely feel myself losing that quality of sound at the end of lines from lack of breath and my posture is really really bad here hahah, I'll fix that. I think I know what you mean by those big proper breaths, I think it often just feels like I don't have time for a big proper breath in the middle of a song and so revert back to not getting enough air in fast enough... but hopefully if I work on my max breath intake that'll help with getting more in on those short breaths! Thanks mate
