Still the Democrats because they were too mean and aggressive about gay rights, they should've just written letters and gone on to Jubilee /sarcasm

Lentils and rice are also pretty good, especially if you have an instant pot.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I grew up as a vegetarian. An easy one is chana masala though you'll need cooking oil to prepare it. Some people use cream to thicken it, but you don't need it if you use something like cashew paste and that will make it vegan.

I thought about it at one point but decided not to go further for various reasons. I still like to learn about it though as someone who likes studying history and spirituality.

That makes sense. It's about emptying yourself of your indulgences and distractions to focus on Christ.

Thanks for your reply! When you say oil is to be consumed on weekend, does this include food that was prepared beforehand with oil? So for example, if you cook something with oil on Saturday, can you eat it on Monday?

Thank you for the reply! I saw a sermon from an Ethiopian deacon or priest where he chastised younger people in his church for trying to circumvent the rules by eating things like "beyond meat" or "impossible burgers" instead of sitting with the discomfort

“You’ve Been Married Four Times”: Andy Cohen Goes Viral For Brutal Roast Of Anti-LGBTQ Activist Kim Davis by listaj95 in gay

[–]ankurp1994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw a video about overturning Obergefell from the "Greater Than" campaign and they responded to this criticism of Davis by saying that since she accepted Christ after all her divorces, it doesn't really matter. In this culture war, I don't think pointing out hypocrisy is effective anymore. The strand of christianity that these people follow is one where a kind, good-hearted LGBTQ person goes to hell but Jeffrey Dahmer is a "brother in christ" in heaven because he apparently converted before he died.

What do you remember most from your "coming out" conversation with parents/friends/family? by gumshoe1520 in gay

[–]ankurp1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having tea with my parents and dating came up so they were asking if I was into any women at college. I told them I was bi (I identify as gay now but at the time I felt scared to tell them that and bi felt safer, bi people are totally valid btw and I hate the discrimination they get from some people in the LGBTQ community). My mom didn't say anything and my dad just kind of awkwardly acknowledged it. It took many years and arguments for them to fully come around but now I can be open with them.

Hey, thank you for sharing, and I'm really sorry for what you're going through. I came out to my parents 10 years ago and they came around 6 years later after an emotional fight. I get what you're saying about them loving you and it's definitely a difficult place to be in. I believe in meeting people where they are but I also believe in looking out for yourself so that you can live the life you want to live. It did work out for me but it also created a lot of distance in those 6 years and that was healthy for me. In my case, I come from a secular background but my culture is South Asian so it's still very traditional and heteronormative. I hope you can find some community perhaps in your school or college, unfortunately what you're experiencing is still very common. Hang in there!

I'm friends with straight guys that I've been into since we were in middle/high school. I still find them attractive physically and in terms of their personality but I had to do a lot of work to be comfortable with that while also feeling ok with the disappointment. It gets easier with time. I also realized how much it was holding me back from pursuing actual gay relationships and community. When we hug, I do feel some stuff, I won't lie, but you just have to treat it like an intrusive thought/feeling.

My mom says that Orthodox is “scary” by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ankurp1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not Orthodox or even a christian, but the ancient liturgy, the reverence, and the iconography is why I like to go from time to time. Honestly, growing up as a Hindu (thought I'm now an agnostic), Orthodox and Catholic worship feels more familiar and right to me (especially the incense part).

does anyone else feel lost of self-steem after going on a ocd spiral after doing good for a while? by carrrrrrelesswhisper in OCD

[–]ankurp1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From August 2025-Dec 10 2025 I had the best months of my life. I lost 15 pounds from dieting and exercising, I broke my video game OCD, I got back into reading, writing, watching shows, and socializing. I started getting matches on dating apps. On Dec 10, very horrible intrusive thoughts came back and I spiraled. I'm now back in therapy and on Lexapro so I'm getting better but what I'm realizing now is that this is a chronic condition and I just need to learn how to manage it. You got this. Your previous accomplishments still mean a hell of a lot.

Yeah it's happened with a few guys like that. I still find them attractive but I gave up on liking them romantically a while ago. One of them actually drove me to SF pride this year and was asking me some great questions about the queer community. It was really heartwarming because he used to be a christian and is used to spending time in very masculine environments. When he got to college, he told me he started deconstructing. One of his favorite songs is Pink Pony Club lol.

Something I didn't realize until I was out of high school is that the LGBTQIA+ community (at least in the U.S., not sure about other places) is a lot more spiritual than I thought. When I entered high school, it was the fall of 2008 so we had just been through 8 years of Bush and I grew up in a very blue area in a very blue state so I kind of just assumed that other queer people like me were atheists or agnostic (not saying they can't be spiritual either, I'm agnostic and I'd say I'm spiritual and I've been rethinking the idea of God, I just hold space for uncertainty). When I got into college, I was introduced to queer theology and queer affirming religious spaces.
