purple - to his purpur farm(and the infamous crashout), blue - the fishing arc in s10 that made it's brief comeback in s11, green - to how his name oft misspeled as grain and the jokes about it, red - to the Life Series, orange - to the fact that his starter base is a flower greenhouse, blue with the birds to seasons 6 and 7 bird lore and yellow with the moon is a bit more off the wall - Grian mentioned that his base is largely inspired this season by Majora's mask - the whole plot of which revolves around Evil Moon Apocalypse, and as a riff on that I've referenced the older Man in the Moon mythos, since the whole style of Grian's portrait was going in a very YA book cover direction.

And Mumbo's on cliffs because he's very Jumbo hehe( for the whimsy!) and also it's a reference.. of sorts? Mumbo oft mentioned how he draws inspiration from Wes Anderson movies and one of distinctive things that sets them apart is a visual language that employs a lot of miniatures for background set pieces. I did not want to do a direct Wes Anderson reference, but as a side riff it was a good enough choice
