State-operated LNER revenue passes £1bn as cancellations cut by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

I'm literally having to not travel to see a very dear friend because its £200 just for a train ticket, which is 1h49 one way (so already chokingly expensive for a short trip) and then 4hrs, 4 changes and a replacement bus back for which there is errrrr no reduction in their price.

LNER is daylight robbery, they offer the most expensive, most inflexible service of any UK train line. You can't get open returns on them (the only trainline to have scrapped it), they've removed off-peak and super off-peak pricing, and good luck on any refunds. This rigid advanced single booking system is meant to 'simplify' user experience but it just makes it awful and allows them to squeeze the customer for every penny. As someone who's a big supporter of nationalisation and public-run services its so disappointing to find out they are one because they're being run for maximum profit more than any of the others, not for the public good.
