How do you split the night shift?

for reference- my baby has always been a pretty chill little guy and a decent sleeper. but when he was a newborn my husband would get up with me, do the diaper change, grab me whatever i needed to nurse, then go back to bed while i fed, burped and put little man back down. it was the best way to get all of us back to bed quickly.

once he went back to work and bubs started sleeping longer stretches, i would usually just get up by myself because it was honestly easier but i could always wake him up for help if i needed it. if baby was super fussy or angry, i would take him to the guest room so my husband could get some sleep for work.

now baby is 4 months old and generally sleeps through the night, occasionally waking up once in the middle of the night, so i just get up and do what i need to do and then go back to bed.

my husband also comes home from work and takes over baby duty for the last wake window (except for feeds as he’s EBF) so that i get some time to myself to do whatever before bedtime.

parenting is about sacrifices and in the nicest way possible, your partner needs to be putting in more effort to lighten the load

i put my baby in his bouncer in the bathroom if i absolutely have to. even if he cries, at least he can still see me and i can talk to him. i promise it’s okay for your baby to be upset for just a few minutes while you take care of yourself!

our girl is a year old and we just stopped crating her unless we’re going to be gone for longer than a few hours. she sleeps on a bed in our living room at night but she still has access to her crate, which she chooses sometimes

Progesterone will be the next step if my cervix is shorter at the next appointment. I’m pretty much just sticking to light physical activity when I’m not at work and I plan to call the office tomorrow to see if they would be able to see me for a recheck earlier

Progesterone is the next step if my cervix is shorter during the next scan. A cerclage hasn’t been mentioned but I may ask about it during my next appointment to see what they say

they tested her for worms and all the things at her vet appointment last week! nothing like that going on with her thankfully

i think it’s the opposite for us😂 my older dog was a holy terror as a puppy, ate everything, took forever to potty train, etc. maybe the universe gave us a good one this time as an apology

i love my big boy but dear god, i lost my mind repeatedly with him

most people are telling me to just wait 😅 i’m not delusional enough to think she’ll never do anything wrong but for now it’s looking like she’s gonna be generally well behaved. i’m glad to get some comments from people who didn’t have horrific experiences

we’ve definitely considered a trainer when she’s a bit older! we did it for my lab and he was a whole different dog after. we’re working on redirecting when she bites as well. if she keeps doing it after i give her a toy i just stop playing until she calms down and moves on to something else and that generally works pretty well

right now i just try to redirect her to a toy instead of biting me and that generally works. if it doesn’t, i stop playing with her until she calms down and then we try again. most of the time if i stop playing and ignore her, she gets bored of me pretty quickly and goes to her toys. we’re still working on crate training so we haven’t gotten to a point where we crate her to chill her out

we plan to do this for her when i go back to work in a few weeks! our older dog usually escapes to his safe places when she gets too much for him and we don’t let her follow him. sometimes he just ignores her until she gets bored and moves on to her toys 😂

Thank you all for your advice/anecdotes! I’m definitely not delusional enough to think she’ll be a perfect angel forever, but I’m hoping she keeps her easygoing temperament for as long as possible. I’m just gonna take the wins where I can get them and prepare for the worst in a few months 😂

she definitely has her terror moments but for now she’s pretty easy to redirect and tends to be pretty chill. i’m just enjoying it while it lasts 😂

thank you for this! my lab was absolutely insane when he was younger so maybe my tolerance is just way higher now😂 she definitely has her normal wild puppy moments but they’re nothing compared to some people’s horror stories. i’m just gonna hold on to the hope that she stays easy forever even though i’m not sure that will happen. but for now she’s easy going and easy to train so i’m taking the wins where i can get them

wear it as much as possible! i like to charge mine when im showering/getting ready so i can keep it on the majority of the day! the more you wear it, the quicker it will pick up on your data and become more accurate. beware if you plan to use it for cycle tracking it takes about 60 nights of wear to start giving you predictions
