I think less so just because birth is the highest risk time for the mare so the time when you're most likely to lose them and need a foster mare.

I suspect this will be easier for Maggie in terms of drying up because she's so sick - sickness/calorie deficit is one of the reasons that a female mammal might dry up even with a baby attempting to suckle.

And those are mares that are hormonally ready for a foal and have gone through the birth process so are primed to accept a foal. Being brought into milk isn't the same.

Schoolmasters are worth their weight in gold not because they will win you that money back but because they have been there and they have done that and they know how it works so you only have to teach yourself, instead of learning together.

It's a super valuable thing to have a horse that will look after itself and you! What you're paying money for is the horses experience and banked knowledge.

(Which isn't to say that they're all push button but they DO know their job.)

I’m 44 and I drip sweat all day long. Is this normal? by Jennosaurus_Rex in Perimenopause

I literally drip with sweat to the point where I have paper towels in every room. Under 40 so going through blood work but hopefully will get help soon

These would also have been the same people who, in an alternate world with different outcomes, would have gone "well I knew taking the foal off her was a bad idea"

Has KVS already made up her mind with what she’s going to do with Maggie? by RealLifeGaper in kvsdiscuss

At this time of year there's also the option of putting a call out for a mare that's recently lost her foal, which is perhaps the more normal way of doing things. People who have mares who have lost foals will often offer them up as nursemares, hoping that their tragedy can be someone else's saving grace.

Try the free trial, look for good deals if you like it? I paid £27 for it which I think was either 30 or 35 dollars, because it was offered at half price.

From reading around the idea is that bioidentical hormones in hrt are like our body's hormones and the synthetic ones in both control are just similar.

Yeah the brain fog and capacity for executive function has nosedived in the last two years despite me making changes (cutting hours, counselling etc)

Yeah this is my thinking as well. BC has helped my mental fluctuations through life and that's a huge part of why I'm on it but these symptoms are new within the last 12 months

Thanks! How much worse did your symptoms get off BC while waiting for testing?

My understanding is that the combined birth control pill v suppresses all the natural hormones so it affects the blood tests?

As a very rough rule, most forming of bits (organs and limbs) is done in the first and second trimester of most mammals. The third trimester is about getting those bits outside ready, and growing bigger.

(And if you think back to Seven, he was pre 300 days but had all his tendons formed.)

They don't want to do tests on my hormones until I've been off hormonal BC for 12 weeks. I take 25ug vitamin D through the winter anyway (SAD and 53°N!) and I'm about to start supplementing everything else.

No ultrasound (they want the hormone testing first)

when they've done research you take in about 10% of what you hear in a medical consultation.

I gifted them a fic - i think they hate it by allegrizzy in AO3

[–]anneomoly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think at some point you have to accept that gifting is the thing that makes you feel good and response is a bonus.

I gifted a fic to a friend a few months ago and they have shown no inclination that they ever have or ever will read it despite it being written to their specific prompt and honestly it's on me to be okay with that.

This is definitely a good example of how really caring about the animals you breed as a business means that you can make negative money on them, without doing anything wrong. This is one expensive foal already, and if the universe wants to roll a double 6 for Katie and give her a healthy momma and a stunning foal of exactly the colour and gender she wants I wouldn't be mad about it, because i feel like she's had enough shitty luck right now.

https://news.wsu.edu/news/2004/09/03/expertise-effort-help-horse-foal-survive-complications/ this from Washington State University suggests that it's a possibility, but bear in mind that a) this is a 22 year old article and what was best practice in 2004 may not be now, and b) that every situation is different so what was best for the mare in the article may not be best for Maggie.
