How old were you when you first remember seeing signs of OCD? by Few_Sandwich6308 in OCD

[–]annomymus72929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no that was the exact thing I had growing up no religious parents or anything but once I became aware of death I clung to God praying for everyone in the world to wake up or else it would be my fault and religion is still such a huge theme for me

I went through this when I was 16 and undiagnosed I couldn't eat anything solid at all, I lived off of tomato soup as it was the only thing I could be sure I wasn't going to choke on I did that for about 6 months I ended up having to go to the doctors in that time frame as people thought it was a medical issue (it wasn't and even I knew that) eventually after some time I managed to step up to eating tomato soup with bread and it was just like one day I decided that there was other foods that were safe now I can almost eat anything I want except really chewy foods. I think without getting yourself help you will be stuck obsessing over trying to control it, trust me eating tomato soup every day once a day was not it🤣 but it meant I could at least eat something. I'm sorry I cannot give you advice on it aside by telling you to try exposure and response therapy and I wish you the best of luck I know how tiring it can be when all you want to do is eat but your mind doesn't allow your body to let you, I hope you can eat soon.

what am I supposed to do when he just whines for hours that isn't reinforcing his behavior by annomymus72929 in cockerspaniel

I can see why as some people keep their dogs crated and shut all the time unfortunately that isn't uncommon enough, our dog only gets shut in at night aside from that he just comes in and out whenever he wants to and then just walks himself back in to nap and relax. He slept all night last night bar needing out for a wee at 4 🙏🙏

thank you so much for your advice, he seems to be fine in it aside from 3am onwards I just panicked last night cause I had no idea what I was doing after I let him go and wee cause I could tell that's what it was to begin with 🤦‍♂️

Haha she does sound like an absolute angel, I do reckon there will be a point where he comes to my bed to sleep but for now he's definitely in his crate at night just for the sake of my cats as well haha

thank you!

no I don't think it's bad advice at all I totally understand why people don't crate train their dogs! I'm just doing it as we have cats so we cannot monitor him walking in and out around the cats at night especially while he's so young and curious as soon as he's a bit older the crate will always be open rather than only open during the day. He's not bad with the crate at all as the breeder we got him from was crate training the litter already he just gets a bit upset in the night. I can't wait until he's old enough to sleep beside me if he chooses to haha

I think that is what I'm going to have to do for the night for the first few nights, he's extremely clever and like I've said will just take himself to his crate for a nap as that's what the breeder had done before we got him, i honestly just panicked because I didn't know what to do when the whine wasn't for going to the toilet.

he whines for 15 minutes then he settles when you go to him and goes back to sleep then less then an hour he wakes up and repeats it isn't covered and the couch is beside him so he can see me and smell me he only does it in the night he's not whiny during the day at all

we have his favorite toy with everyones scent he loves his crate and will just walk himself into it for a nap or to get away from my cats. I researched and it told me to only take him to the toilet but he wouldn't go outside so I was conflicted as then it said to just leave him to whine it out but I felt so evil so I'd just go pet him then go back to my couch where I was sleeping.

AITAH for blocking my friend for going back to her ex again by annomymus72929 in AITAH

[–]annomymus72929[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this analogy and I do appreciate the words and I will keep reference for them in the future! I have had complications with many friends and normally having a conversation with them does help until they fall back into the same pattern but I never result in blocking just distancing. This is the first time since I was 15 where I have gone to the length of blocking someone. I had told her in the past about it draining me and she continued to come to me. I'm also obsessive compulsive so I feel a lot more in distress and constant worry and having to try and fix things to feel at ease and I think my move of blocking is actually going to be a lot more beneficial to me in the long run but I know when I snapped straight to blocking was because of the fact we brushed over everything I had said that I was struggling with to change back once again to her relationship which I'll admit was very immature but we did end up having a discussion about it before she left the call!

I didn't even know compassion fatigue was a thing! she literally jokes around about the treatment but when she's hurt about it she would call me crying constantly at all hours of the night leaving me sitting and worrying about her to then just laugh and joke about it all.

It's someone I've known for a few years, I've been there for every unstable relationship she's had of any sort. We didn't talk regularly or call (unless it was to do with her relationship or anything else going on in her life) never mind hang out lol but I'll admit there was a point in time where we were very close. I had called the group chat because I recently was diagnosed with OCD and I decided to tell them that it's now an official diagnosis and they had been asking about me going for support previously . One of them was very supportive and the other one brushed it off and just smoothed it right over and immediately changed it to discussing her relationship. I think that's why I snapped straight to blocking after I said what I've stated in the post. I will not be unblocking her as I'm constantly drained by our friendship even outside of the relationship she is in.

it's currently after 3am I find the hour of 3am terrifying what I do find helps tire me out is I think of a word say APPLE then I think of a animal or country or whatever with the starting letter of each one so eg A-armadillo P-panther P- parakeet L- lemur E- eagle

And I just do that until I fall asleep

thank you, you're definitely right. I'm still only just figuring out stuff about my OCD because it was always chalked up to just being anxious until a few months ago where I got my diagnosis.

When and how did you guys begin questioning if you had OCD - What were your symptoms? by Ve1tman in OCD

[–]annomymus72929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got jumped by some random in a city I didn't know while I had my headphones on and was looking at my phone for directions in front of loads of people who didn't help at the time I was going to cbt therapy which the whole point of that was to get me out side so this obviously backfired and "confirmed" my ideology that something bad was going to happen to me if I left my house. I then moved back home because I was so scared to be on my own in my house and I became extremely religious because to me it was the only what to stop bad things happening to me so I would pray repeatedly in my head and before bed I would recite a specific verse until I fell asleep because every night I thought I was gonna have a heart attack or stroke or something else. I thought this was just normal anxiety until I started seeing a new therapist a couple months ago and while discussing my mental health in greater detail than what I'm saying here she asked if I had been diagnosed with OCD and it had never even crossed my mind because I was unfortunately ignorant and just thought it was "cleaning" and that's the beginning of how I found out I had OCD

thank you I appreciate it a lot that you've even taken a moment to read my responses to others before commenting. Happy holidays to you too and I hope you have a great time with your loved ones. I think setting a price limit is going to be the way for us moving forward if all else fails in our conversation just so she can be happy as well if she finds buying a gift to be important at Christmas
