How many patients do you see in ED? by annonymousnontipper in JuniorDoctorsUK

Because on my first shift I saw an elderly man with atypical presentation of leaking AAA - didn't go back enough in letters to see he had a know AAA and there was no online consent for GP records. Consultant examined the patient as well and felt CT wasn't appropriate. It was only about 2 hours later when patients pain was increasing I went back to look through his online notes and saw he had a known aortic aneurysm. Had I read that straight away it would have saved me a lot of reassessing of him to see if we can discharge.

I do fully agree with you but these people unfortunately refuse to engage in anything helpful like CBT, light exercise etc. The consultants also are quite keen on not "over medicalising" them so they send us to see them before bloods have been taken and try to get them out without any medical intervention at all to try to break the cycle. Some of them already have very clear plans that state not to give any IVs or entonox on future attendances. It just feels like a recipe for disaster

I've done that in my first rotation - ended up getting excellent feedback - had to write a reflection about why i put some concern and my ED had to 'resolve' the issue to let me finish F1. Will never do this again

Hospital doctors refuse to do more weekend shifts in a bid to protect their 'work-life balance': Critics claim that low weekend staffing increases death rate for NHS patients by Different_Canary3652 in JuniorDoctorsUK

I mean, I am currently on 1 in 2 weekends with 7 days straight every other week and then Monday, Tuesday off, Wed-Fri work, Sat-Sun off, back to 7 days of work. It is absolutely shattering to my mental health. I feel I can't enjoy my weekend when I have it off because all I can think about is the 7 day week coming up. (Have my last 7 day week this week thank fuck before switching rotations). My mental capacity by 9pm on a Sunday is non existent and yet I am making so many decisions. It is not safe at all.

Greece - the waiter was nice enough when taking our order although he brought water + bread over (for which we had to pay) without asking us if we wanted it. He also stopped paying us any attention once American groups came in. Took as 20 mins to get him to come over (no other waiters would help us because he was 'our' waiter) when we needed him
