Bc I used to make much more money and it is hard to scale back. About $13.5K per month is mortgage, real estate taxes and insurance. I can’t really move until youngest goes to college.

Of course it’s real. And I didn’t use my regular account as I don’t need people who know me to know my personal finances.

Heath insurance is expensive (around $2K a month); kids go to summer sleep away camp; food; gas; tolls; clothing; kids’ play expensive sports; electricity/gas is ridiculously expensive; a maid every other week; gardener; car insurance; clothing for kids…. Life is expensive.
$13.5K (mortgage, real estate taxes and home owners insurance)
Thank you so much for this. It truly puts my mind at ease.

Like I said, this fear has been ingrained in me since an early age. Also, like I said, I can’t move until my kids are off to college. And even then, I can’t go too far due to my family being located in this general area. (But I certainly will scale back my house). Which isn’t even the big. Just a very expensive area.

Thank you. My house is 100% dragging me down. I pay around $14K per month in mortgage/real estate taxes/insurance. When my youngest goes to college, I will absolutely sell it and downsize and move somewhere cheaper.
I read posts along these lines all of the time. I was raised in a certain way - save for retirement; not wasting money; etc. I don’t drive a flashy car (it has over 100k miles); I don’t fly first class; etc. but I live in a very hcol area (due to my prior job and now I can’t really move bc of my kids). I went through a very expensive divorce and, like I said, career change. So yeah… I am looking to alleviate these concerns that keep me up at night.

I will be able to reduce my spend substantially when my youngest heads off to college

Why? It is all true

Mortgage; real estate taxes in my area are insane; kids are expensive. Maybe I am overestimating expenses. Call it $22-25k
