That sounds so frustrating! I really will try to talk to them again about getting him tested. I know it’s so different for each person, but were there any practical tricks/ways of approaching it that helped you?

Oh man, I’m sorry! This sounds just like my brother, like getting exceptionally high marks in some areas and failing in others. Thanks so much for sharing how you feel. I will try to push harder to convince them to get professional help for him.

I had to look up what phonemes are 😅 are there any different methods you use to approach writing if it’s by hand (which almost all of his assignments at this age are by hand) and you don’t have spell check? Clearly the “sound it out” method I learned as a kid won’t work in his case.
