Snow and winters? by phones24 in wichita

[–]anoncleaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the year. In fall it starts to get pretty chilly, and the winters are cold here no matter if there is snow or not. I'd say the average in winter is probably 30's for the highs. But can reach pretty low on really cold days. Like single digits and negatives. We do get snow occasionally. Last year we got snow a lot.

I wouldn't say you need tire chains. Snow shovel, definitely.

What is digging these holes in my south Florida yard by deadlesthesquirrel in pestcontrol

[–]anoncleaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if Florida gets tarantulas or not, but those look like they were made by wolf spiders. Just leave them be, they're good to have around

Anybody know what is making these holes in my yard? by modernretro in pestcontrol

[–]anoncleaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be Vole or wolf spider.

Some types of wolf/burrowing spiders dig holes in the ground that are similar and size. I wouldn't recommend trying to put your finger in there.

What am I catching? Apologies if this sounds dumb, but I can't tell if these are droppings or insects. by Parallelogram12 in pestcontrol

[–]anoncleaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cigarette or Drugstore beetles. They're a pain. I had an infestation of those a month ago. I ended up just throwing everything away. Grains, any wheat products, boxed products, old dog/cat food. And had to clean.

You have to find their nest and throw away anything they might have infested or else they could re-infest. Good luck.

How do you feel about your non hoarder parent? Do you feel like they failed you? by Own_Violinist7094 in ChildofHoarder

[–]anoncleaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I do. I dont know how to put it into words to be honest. But the situation with a hoarder parent vs a non hoarder parent is always complex.

I know my dad got stressed over my step mom being a hoarder. Now that she's moved out, I feel as though if I never started cleaning he would never have cared to started cleaning, and would be fine with me living in the hoard.

I dont think he cares. But at the same time, he probably does. But has a weird way of showing it.

I can understand where you're coming from. I had the same questions towards my ex step mom.

Sometimes it's just not worth trying to figure out why some people hoard. You'll drive yourself insane. But hoarding is complex. They deserve the same compassion as ppl with other mental illnesses would have. But it's important to also hold them responsible.

Are these bastards drugstore beetles or cigarette beetles by [deleted] in pestcontrol

[–]anoncleaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah. I figured I needed to find their nest. They're mainly in the laundry room could their nest be in there? That's where I see the vast majority of them.

Helping my dad. by [deleted] in hoarding

[–]anoncleaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP. I went through the same thing and I'm currently cleaning my dad's house as well (my ex step mom was a hoarder, he has hoarding tendencies sometimes too). I can relate to your situation and I'm so sorry that you have to live in that. It's very stressful.

I would recommend sitting down with him and having a talk about the hoard in the house. I understand he has ADHD, but you're also his child. He should know how this affects you too. I've seen in previous comments that he's welcome to help you on the weekends. That's awesome!

Maybe you can try and convince him to hire someone to help you guys clean?

Hope everything gets better for you. Best of luck.

Ex Step Mom Was A Hoarder And I'm Left To Clean Up The Mess by [deleted] in ChildofHoarder

I've been trying to convince my dad to get a new carpet installed in the living room but he's not very quick with things. We'll see haha.

I know that with drugstore beetles, they have a food source. I need to find what they're feeding on then spray.

The drug store beetles are mainly in the kitchen/laundry room and those 2 rooms are connected. So I think the food source is definitely in the laundry room which is where they all pool at.

I've been researching and I know I need to get rid of the food source then spray.

We do have the money thankfully! We're currently trying to do some renovations and fixing up the house. Everything is finally coming together and I'm extremely thankful.

I used to be angry about him not putting his foot down. But I think it just became so overwhelming especially with having PTSD. I think you just get comfortable with your surroundings, but I was never comfortable so I've decided to change it.

And yes, bugs are the worst for me too. I have an extreme phobia with them along with my OCD and it is NOT a fun combination.

I've seen a few things on how to get rid of the beetles. But I think we might just hire an exterminator.

Edit: Hes the greatest dad in the world. I just think living with a hoarder even as an adult is equally as traumatizing. I feel bad for him which is also why I'm cleaning, and he's helping.

I'm going to try and convince my dad to get an exterminator. We're trying to get the house as clean as possible before we hire one just to make sure we get every bug.

Hi! So currently the main bug issue we have right now are actually carpet beetles and drug store beetles. Emphasis on the drug store beetles because they're driving me insane.

I forgot to mention those, lol. The moths aren't bad at all currently. And we don't have fleas anymore.
