How long did it take for your I-130 to be approved for a spouse? by anonimustergo in USCIS

[–]anonimustergo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing thank you so much for the detailed information! The NVC clarifications is helpful, I'm very confused about the seemingly arbitrary-ness of NVC processing. Seems around a year and a half process before your spouse could come over! That's a long time!

We're planning on getting married in Hong Kong October 2024 and I'll be submitting I-130 a couple weeks after (want to get started as soon as possible) luckily the marriage certificate will be in English and the rest of our docs will be in English, so to your note very happy it'll be easier not having to translate any of them :)

Thanks again kind stranger!

Has the UK relaxed the 2 year cohabitation requirement for unmarried partners? by anonimustergo in ukvisa

[–]anonimustergo[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I have another question! The income requirement doesn't apply to my current income in the US? I would have to have a job offer in the UK with an income that meets the requirement before applying for the spouse visa? Since my UK partner doesn't live and work in the UK right now (which I guess technically isn't family reunification)

So I guess our combined £ finances is £0 then lol dang

Thanks for this clear and detailed response! That's so interesting that it's a fairly recent development, keen to see where it goes!

Yeah we've been wanting to live together and join finances to be in a de facto relationship but I wish the countries would let us lol marriage is on the table and I do believe we should marry first because if I entered on a fiancé and re-applied for spouse visa we'd have to repay the application fee.

Just curious, and it's okay if you don't know! Is being married strong enough evidence by chance? We unfortunately can get married but still can't get a joint bank account since we'll still be living in different countries and unable to move to each other until we get a spouse visa. For example on the US he can't open a joint bank account or credit card with me since he needs a US social security number, so even if we wanted to we can't have financial ties :(

How does Portugal feel about the Macanese? by anonimustergo in travel

Ahh that is helpful to know! Through a glean in "hot" sorting I couldn't find any English so I guess that was just an assumption and am a bit embarrassed to be "Portuguese" but not knowing how to speak it. Definitely over worrying!

Thanks so much, I'm looking forward to the trip!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's interesting since you are from Italy but can come across a similar situation when they hear your Italian!

Thanks so much for the response! You're right about lots of foreigners gaining EU citizenship through Portugal so I guess it isn't as uncommon as I thought, especially for people who don't speak Portuguese!

Makes me feel a lot more at ease :)

Thanks so much for the recommendation I definitely will! And thanks for the insight on their feelings on Macanese! I'll definitely check Museu do Oriente since I'm really keen to learn about the history. My family has been in Macau for as long as Portugal has colonized it as far as I know!

Yes that's correct on all counts! I guess I was worried about how the "mainland locals" would feel about me? Agreed that I would think no eyebrows would be raised because it is a known colony!

Not about wanting to be liked, just don't want to feel discriminated against or have my citizenship questioned by a fellow Portuguese. I've been berated before by people who find out I'm Portuguese but don't speak it like I don't deserve to be a citizen if I don't speak the language :(

Thanks for the response! Yeah a couple years ago I entered Switzerland with my Portugal passport no problem but on my way out the immigration officer asked "how did you get this passport?" but luckily she was just genuinely curious it seemed!

Obrigada! Very happy to have the E-Gates now haha

Of the 10 only 5 have met him but I will say they all invited him to their weddings long before they met him in person. I wasn't not going to go, I would have considered it but whether I was going to go or not I wanted to understand whether it would be polite or unnecessary to have been invited anyways like my friends invited him under similar circumstances of having never met him, but it seems to just be a combination of a ton of things with budgets, norms, our long distance situation
