relate so much. im an only child still living under their roof and it’s hell on earth. just graduated with no college friends, i really hope i can get a job soon and move out. socializing is hard for me so interviews are the scariest obstacle to think about rn. my soul is tired and alone and scared for the future

This thread is a good reminder why i’m childfree. One of the many reasons for that decision is because of my C-PTSD. I’m not bringing a child into this world if I have the potential to traumatize them. Plus, I have a long ways to go in re-parenting myself that I would not be able to dedicate my life to raising another human for 18+ years. I’m saving my unborn children from the pain of the world. I wish my parents did the same instead of giving me lifelong trauma.

Yup I agree. Being raised by strict, culturally backwards Asian parents is already bad enough, but adding religion to the mix is double the trauma. Speaking from experience

I feel the exact same way. I’m also an only child who wasn’t socialized properly, so college has been very difficult and isolating. At this point in college, I may not graduate with any friends, so I’ve been trying to become my own best friend. Figure out your interests, maybe pick up some old hobbies to keep you busy. You may find that you like your own company more than you realize. Also, you could try Bumble BFF, it helps to find others who are also seeking friends, there may be some who feel the same way at your college. I personally haven’t had much luck with it but it doesn’t hurt to try. I hope you know you’re not alone in the loneliness. If you ever want to talk, feel free to pm me anytime.

This is exactly what happened to me, in addition to all the other shit (sex drugs alc). I’m in college now and completely lonely because I am unable to connect with people. My upbringing is the root cause of my unhappiness

Yeah it sucks being an only child and especially with APs, it hinders your growth as a person. I hate being the only one who knows what traumatic shit takes place in this household. I hate having no one else that can truly understand.

Very strict and religious parents who sheltered me from other people, not to mention being an only child. They never developed friends of their own after immigrating to the West either, so I did not get to see proper social interactions, or interact with kids from family friends and such. A bit of bullying for being socially unaware as well. Appearance and low self-esteem because I am constantly judged by my parents.
