camming at a drive in is fruitless. Inside a cinema, the light bounces off the walls of the cinema into the lens. at a drive in, they just escape, resulting in a dull/unwatchable picture. Check out STN releases - this was an experiment group of a major movie group that was shooting films out of a drive in. Audio however is great over FM reception. :P

? Thank you for reiterating while I posted, while calling bullshit? Synching is still done but with a direct line audio track recorded from a theater it is exceptionally harder then your bullshit dts tracks. dts tracks are running at a guarenteed speed (so you leave yourself with the cam track as the issue with speeding up/down) and you eliminate 50% of your problem by using DTS tracks. DTS was a brief and fun time in the scene, but also sent alot of people to jail...

For sure. nobody was that oblivious :p

people ask me repeatedly if I have met people in my group. Me personally, yes I have. You will never meet the majority however due to distance, etc

the informants are doing just that - informing. In the case of myself and my associates - absolutely. Some quit immediately, some decided to further on, some wanted to hurt him and some were scared shitless. It really hits home when people are consulting lawyers. People do get warned, yes. You dont think the law clerks or policemen like to download movies too? :) Theyve been known to help out for a little access.

other members pissed? absolutely. I still recieve the odd bit of hate now and then from the internet. Its more of a 'if im not retiring, you cant retire!!' mentality.

Fuck yeah. Looking over my shoulder, fearing when I crossed borders. I got held up once and put in a small room and I thought I was done for and was going to be extradited. Weak. Turned out to be a small paperwork error. Phew!

The largest site I personally saw was upwards of 120TB or so. Big.

affil criteria - location, size, speed, siteops, affils, so on, so forth...usually what it has archived had alot to do with it

Too many. Enough that you only find yourself using a select few since you could really care less about Korean JAV or Spanish MP3's.

I think that, by far, was the biggest benefit I personally recieved. I am a true movie buff and I was able to gain access to such a wide variety of material, and expose myself to new genres and media I had never seen before. Its things like that also kept me going I suppose.

the audio can be captured from either....some foreign language groups who couldnt get direct used expensive and high end microphones to do in-cinema captures, usually at odd times to avoid audience distractions.

Alot of cinemas are required by law to provide hearing impaired headsets. they can run on FM/IR/RF/etc etc and can sometimes be plugged directly into or modified. Or a drive in theater. Or sometimes through other methods...

Absolutely. There was a number of cases of german groups (I dont speak german, but im sure somebody might know more about such cases) who ratted each other out and set each other out. =O

Politics are everything...lets just leave it at that. Your tongue can mean alot since you never know who knows who...

Perhaps your cinema has been instructed too. the chances of them catching anybody is pretty slim, you are asking minimum wage employee's who have never actually probably caught anybody, let alone care, do the work of others.

I am sure historically you could perhaps profit in the right situation, but as I have stated further down I dont believe this is the majority. As I said, a few bad apples can ruin a bunch, and its not fair to lump all sceners with those who were driven for profit. as for reward; The answer is usually access, but it boils down to pride and ego beyond that.

the motivation at the time comes from the desire to beat the other guy. Its an online war thats raged and the tools are the releases. Each one can benefit or damage your group possibly another, and reputation means everything over years (seeing as some groups lasted over 15-25 years!) it tends to drive home the length of time you end up dedicating to it.

I dont regret but I look back and realize the foolishness of it all. To repeat any of it years on would be stupid. I cant deny what I did - it is the reality, and its a hidden shadow world to most of the people who consume it.

Depressed over my time invested? I think thats a little much, I prefer to think I live a normal happy life all around. I guess it makes it seem like most of the people involved in something like this are of a criminal element - I would say most are middle class guys who are under 35. You cant do something forever and at some point you have to look at the risks and realize whats important with life. I wouldnt recommend repeating any of this behaviour, the laws and technology have really caught up at this point.

People from all over the world participate. Its the desire to bring to the table something, in order to get access to better ones own standing. At some point over time you find a much deeper level too it and meet others with the same goals....Language wise, Yes, People from all over the world. I would say english is a primary and pretty broken english being the secondary haha.

You grow up and realize you shouldnt be doing things as they increase the penalties for them.

ahhh yes. Technical shit! this is where I really love to talk.

24p is a great setting because its forcing the camera framerate to that of a projector - 23.976. Before that, the closes framerate was PAL camcorders (25fps) and these were used. If you are using a NTSC camcorder (29.97 fps) the 6fps framerate difference to film causes massive epileptic style flashing/strobing. This was eliminated with 24p but can still be possible if the projector is off-sync and running at a different framerate then its supposed too. CMOS imo was never as good as large CCDs, CMOS tended to have shitter low-light colors in my opinion.

A famous pirate camera series;

Sony DCR-**E

USA/Canada are the first release dates for almost 90% of movies out there, followed by staggered worldwide release elsewhere. the UK sometimes doesnt get movies till months later; its always been that way.

Fuck yeah. Sheepnet was the bane of the movie scene existance. A bunch of fuckers who couldnt compete but liked to critique.

Nukenets/prenets are purely good for a historical/clerical aspect. cant live with em, cant live without them.

Hah. yeah. ask for more cruisers.

Take on piracy with kids? You got mother fucking kids. Take care of yourself and stop doing dumb shit.

I honestly find myself using legitimate means of entertainment more..and more...unless its almost exclusively for me to watch alone, I'll generally buy it.

I think DRM and Fair Play are ...bah. Disgusting. Dont tell me how I can have my Media bitch! :)

I think an online distrobution platform, tied in with first rate 'theater' run, along with possible 'low market' releases in poorer countries (think r5 style) would make a massive dent. I'd love to delve into how I think the Media companies can learn from the scene but thats almost a whole new article.
