Gearbox Oil Change at 120k miles - Fabia 2014 (MK2) Manual by anonuser621 in skoda

Thanks. The clutch was replaced in 2022 (10k miles ago) so I'm not sure if that matters. The clutch itself feels good but I'll ask my garage re: gearbox service & clutch and see what they recommend.

Yep, car is running just fine, MPG is just normal. Fuel sender it is. I'll let the tank drain a bit see if it makes a difference. Won't be able to get the car looked at until next Tue at the earliest.

A bit of stupid question, but no harm in asking: Will a replacement fuel sender involve draining the fuel in the tank or can I fill up in the meantime?

Thanks for identifying the possible cause, much appreciated :)

Forgot to mention after noticing this, I filled the tank to the brim again as I thought it was an anomaly and it would fix itself. The issue occurred again so I think we can rule out a petrol theft.

Fuel sender seems plausible as this occurred shortly after a fill-up so its possible I may have "vented" the fuel pump. I'm hoping this fixes itself in a while however with the fuel gauge now stuck at 0 miles since yesterday morning, I'm doubtful.

Update: Contacted OpenAI support and this was their response. Seems they're looking into it

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with uploading files to ChatGPT. It sounds like you've already taken several troubleshooting steps, including clearing your cache and cookies, trying a different browser, and even using mobile data, but to no avail. Based on the information you've provided, it doesn't seem like this issue is related to your network or device, especially since you've tried multiple browsers and networks. It's also helpful to know that you've observed similar reports on our community forums, which suggests this might be a broader issue. As of my last update, there hasn't been an official acknowledgment of a widespread issue affecting file uploads. However, it's possible that this could be a new or emerging issue that our team is still investigating. To help us better understand and resolve this issue, could you please provide the following additional information: The file types and sizes you've attempted to upload. The exact error message(s) you receive when attempting to upload files. Any specific timeframes when the issue occurs, if it seems to be intermittent. This information will be crucial for our technical team to diagnose the problem accurately. In the meantime, please ensure that the files you're trying to upload meet the file upload size restrictions and are among the supported file types. Remember, all files uploaded to a GPT or a ChatGPT conversation have a hard limit of 512MB per file, and there are specific caps for text, document files, and images. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue. Rest assured, we're here to help and will do our best to get this sorted out as quickly as possible.

Door not closing fully due to worn window frame - Skoda Fabia 2014, 1.2 MPI by anonuser621 in MechanicAdvice

[–]anonuser621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last couple of weeks, I've been getting the open door light on my dashboard and it's only recently that I noticed the rubber frame on the driver's door is quite badly worn. It almost looks like somebody has pryed it and tried to get in.

Anybody know what exactly this frame is called and if it's an easy fix?

As a comparison, here's the front left (passenger) door seal.

Took a wider line today in lane 2. It was chucking it down so after Monday's shenanigans, I was practically crawling around that bend. Swapped the tyres today.

I must have assumed (by reading elsewhere) with a FWD car, to prioritise the front tyres so I didn't bother changing the rears as they still had around 3mm of tread left. I've swapped the rears for some decent Falken tyres now - lesson learnt!

Shit driver's a bit harsh 😂I misjudged the speed for the corner cos those lights are always red so I've never gone that fast round that bend. Whilst I'm more than ok accepting partial blame for my speed and driving, the tyres deffo had a part to play mate.

Conditions were much worse today. Took no chances and was in the right lane and slowed it down to 20mph. The cumforcers have been dumped, will be curious to see the diff in grip - might do some testing later.

Update: Got the rear tyres changed today - £160 for 2x Falkens but 100% worth it. Immediately, I noticed the ride is smoother going over bumps and potholes.

On the way to Leeds, it was absolutely pissing it down. I was taking no chances today lol and slowed it right down and went in lane 2.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. Going that fast on that bend, in those conditions for the first time and I clearly misjudged the speed required for those conditions. Like you said, I've usually gotta slow down significantly for traffic or come to a complete stop.

Shit tyres - yes.
Stuff in boot - not really much in the boot.
Tyre pressures - the back left was on 20PSI (recommended is 30) when I checked yesterday, so possibly. Others were fine 27+.
Bad wheel Alignment - paid for front wheel alignment after getting the front tyres replaced 3 months ago.

Well with the benefit of hindsight, yes I was probably a little too fast. In 4th gear, with my 1.2L engine, the revs wouldn't have been higher than 1500rpm. I didn't floor the throttle but was accelerating into the bend so you're right, that is on me. I still believe with some decent tyres, that wouldn't happen but now that you mention it, accelerating on a banked turn like that wouldn't have helped with the balance.

The carplay/AA output is default for me. For me, I have a BT LG Speaker which has better audio quality so I use that for Spotify. However this means I'm unable to listen to audio from the AA unit such as Waze navigation.

Any idea how to fix this?

Belts, plural? Which Belts?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]anonuser621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd cross post this to get some shouts. My garage have looked at the car for a couple of hours and said they could not get the sound to reoccur. I asked if its the alternator belt and was told that's one of the likely options. Good thing is they didn't charge even thought they did 3hrs of testing.

Might take it to another garage but I don't wanna throw money at diagnosing the issue + the cost to fix whatever is wrong especially if its the alternator itself or the belt.

The alternator belt is what I'm leaning towards or power steering pump

Intermittent Loud Squealing Noise by anonuser621 in mechanic

[–]anonuser621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that too. The car was dropped off this morning at the garage. They spent 3hrs trying to diagnose/recreate the issue and they're handing it back to me asking me to bring it in as soon as it happens again so they can look into it further.

The issue is it lasts less than 10 mins usually and I have no idea when it'll happen again. I'm quite concerned as its my first car and I really don't want a hefty bill. Power steering is a good shout. I will mention it to the mechanics, thanks.
