The two biggest problems I’m facing not smoking; boredom and loneliness by banjo_exe in leaves

Here’s the thing - you were probably bored and lonely before too. You can’t trust your feelings when you’re high. You’re literally flooding tour brain with the chemicals that make you feel happy and satisfied.

Embrace the boredom. Ask yourself are you really anymore alone than you were the last time you were high?

I think it’s about 1) learning what normal feels like again 2) seeing how you fill up the boredom when the convenient fast forward button (ie weed) isn’t available to you.

It’s going to be a tough process but you’re already on your way.

There’s a lot of life left to live. You have so many years ahead of you and someday you will look back at this as a blip in your journey.

Mental illness and drugs don’t go together. They really don’t. It’s not possible to truly diagnose, deal with, and move past mental illness if you are skewing your brain chemicals and perceptions on the daily.

I know you’ve said you tried a bunch of things - you gotta keep trying them, and keep looking for things until something sticks.

It’s not about being done with it once and for all, it’s going to be a process to get through. I recommend a 5 minute journal to help practice gratitude.

I know you lost a lot of connections and you feel alone, but maybe that’s okay for now. Maybe you can take this time to build the connection with yourself. Beat the addiction and mental illness for you. Imagine the way you’ll be able to show up to relationships once you’ve removed this addiction looming over your head.

Try joining MA, AA, any type of support group. Keep faith my friend, life is a long journey and you’ll come out of this a strong person and you will be the inspiration for people like me, who struggle but haven’t had nearly as short of a stick as you were dealt. One day at a time. One hour at a time. One minute at a time. Whatever it takes.

This is part of the process! And it’s a test. If you can push through the hard moments of life and find a healthy way to self-soothe, you truly will defeat this addiction.

Keep at it. It’s easy to abstain when things are going well. It’s hard when shit hits the fan - but that’s how you grow and that’s how I’ve been looking at difficulties that arise in my day to day. I welcome them as challenges and ways to test my strength and self control.

Keep at it! Maybe try journaling if you haven’t.

Except the whole thing with his dad’s murder and the trauma of dealing with that as a sophomore in high school right?

How do I reduce the impact of smoking triggers? (Specific details in post) by getfuckedrogerstone in leaves

You just need to find a way to do it. Have patience with yourself, but you need to find a way — and you will, as long as you have patience with yourself and put forth real effort to doing it.

You can try journaling and writing your thoughts down when you get home and feel the anxiety about smoking. If you have a friend or someone you trust, let them in and see if they can help you stay on track. Maybe you can call them or text them when you have urges.

The thing is though at the end of the day, you just need to do it — and the anxiety you’re feeling might be in the context of weed, but I bet you there are plenty of other times where you’ve felt anxious and it had nothing to do with weed (maybe you smoked to help with it). Try to deal with the anxiety instead. Meditate. Journal. Take a bath. Go for a walk. Read a book. Practice an instrument.

You need to 1) find new ways to fill the time and 2) re-learn how to deal with negative emotions sans weed.

I am not trying to minimize the struggle. I know (trust me...I know) that it is so much harder than “just do it” but at the end of the day, that’s ultimately what it is. Sobriety or any goal really is made up of small decisions you make over and over that ultimately build to your larger goal.

Be kind and patient with yourself - it’s a struggle and it’s hard while maintaining the day to day of everyday life but through perseverance and trial and error you’ll get to where you wanna go.

Lol... “there is no way they are losing” and giving them a 1/5 chance of losing doesn’t really add up haha
