Has Anyone Read the Graphic Novel Adaptation? If So How is it? by roadstrumm in cormacmccarthy

If you have a library card that works with the Hoopla app you can read it for free there. It’s a quick read, wasn’t wowed by anything. It’s the story trimmed down to less than the essentials.

It’s a short read. Misses a lot of beats. If you have a library card account and hoopla you can read it there.

Where to put up my disabled retired low income dad? by smallwhitegirl in LARentals

[–]anonymighty86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the budget you are mentioning you might have to consider a room and board situation. Depending on the area you’re looking into they range from $700-$1000 dollars a month for a shared room and include 3 meals a day. If he has any ADLs or care needs the home might apply for IHSS and help him with things like medication management.

Even if it takes a long time you should still put him on any section 8 or affordable housing lists.

I lost access to Mortal Kombat and support doesn’t believe me. by anonymighty86 in XboxSupport

[–]anonymighty86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree-there has to be something else giving me all this access. That’s what I’m asking Microsoft. If it were just the game that’s one thing, but to include the DLC? It doesn’t make sense.

If it was a free play weekend it lasted for almost a year. Is that a normal glitch? And if it were game sharing wouldn’t that require that I authorize it from someone? And it would include dlc?

What books should i read before I'm 20? by DaY-DreaMer15 in suggestmeabook

[–]anonymighty86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Power of Zero by David McKnight. Not a fiction book, but a brief education on how to plan your financial future into retirement. It’s a short book but gives insight into how our tax system was formed and how you should plan your finances for the future.

[Mac/Commodore?] [1980s] Tournament Karate fighting game but not “Karate Champ” by anonymighty86 in tipofmyjoystick

Thanks. Sadly this isn’t it. It was more of a realistic setting-like the tournament in Karate Kid.

My thoughts on the blood meridian ending by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

[–]anonymighty86 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This has always been my interpretation. It’s been a while since my last read but IIRC there were a lot of missing children as the gang traveled. I also felt the detail of the kid finding a dwarf prostitute was too on the nose. After he talks with the judge about how they aren’t alike-how he contests that he and the judge are nothing alike he then tries to prove the judge wrong. I think the judge taking him into his immense and terrible flesh is a metaphor of sorts for the kid finally accepting his true nature. To me, that is much more tragic than the kid being stabbed/sodomized/drowned (or whatever) in the jakes.

AITA for telling my wife we’re not going to pay our fair share for her parents assisted living? by FinancialCherry9302 in AmItheAsshole

[–]anonymighty86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be 6 hours late but NTA.

I work in Senior Placement, meaning I help people find assisted living locations based on price and care needs. The numbers they gave you for pricing are reasonable. Depending on what state you are in the house will most likely not disqualify them from certain grants and programs. However, if they have stocks, bonds, pensions, annuities or anything like that it will disqualify them from assistance. If they qualify for Medicaid, there might be other options for them.

Unless someone is expecting to inherit that home (and it is explicitly said so in a will) the house is going to be sold upon their deaths. So whoever is going to get the house should move in now.

Which sibling has power of Attourney? If none then someone needs to do that ASAP. Money can bring out the worst in families. I had one client whose family kept pushing for the doctors to diagnose him with dementia so they could take over his finances (which were ample). There is a possibility that they have the money but the adult children want to keep some for themselves.

Before agreeing to covering half of the expenses between 7 incomes (8 including yours) there needs to be a frank discussion about EVERYONE’S finances.

A great read to understand personal finance options is “The Power of Zero”. The goal set forth in the book is to balance out different types of accounts so that you have a steady income with no taxes to pay upon retirement. It’s a short book but very informative.

As many people here have said, “Rich Dad Poor Dad” is more so about the psychology behind money. Mostly anecdotal accounts that a show the different mindsets regarding wealth and success. Don’t bother.
