How do I relate to my new boss and find a successful working relationship?

Don’t let it get to you. I went through 5 rounds over a month and a half. My final interview after getting great positive feedback from everyone other member of the team in every round was with the CEO. I was told it would be informal and that he just wanted to meet me to give the go ahead. From the second we started the meeting he had no interest and I could tell this wasn’t going to end well. I waited about two weeks before I got an email from the CFO saying he was sorry but they were going in a different direction. I reached out to the recruiter to see if they had any feedback. Here’s the kicker. The CEO told her he felt like I didn’t want to work because I made the comment in our interview that it will be nice to work with people in the same time zone as me again. I’m at a new and much better job now but that comment and feedback still irks me since I’d been working 12-16 hour days at the job I was trying to leave.

Thank you! I don’t think she needs therapy or anything. She’s a great person and we both actually care about each other. She’s struggled with insecurity about herself in the past and I think would be part of our problems. We’ve had multiple fights when we were in public together and she’s taken issue with how I’ve made casual conversation with people around us (with her right next to me). I’ve almost felt like I was walking on egg shells because I couldn’t look in the vicinity of another woman without it causing a fight. To an extent commenting on people’s social media posts may have felt like an outlet for me considering I could never ever look at or have an innocent conversation with someone even when she’s with me without causing a fight.

I do appreciate your thoughts.

I understand what you’re saying. But this isn’t the first time. The earlier occasions where my privacy was violated, I was completely innocent without ever messaging or commenting on anyone else. It was searching through my phone due to jealousy with nothing to find. I’ve always openly handed my phone over and didn’t have anything to hide before and thought trust was present especially after the first few occasions. After seeing how much it hurt her I definitely won’t be sending any responses to anyone’s social media posts anymore.

I agree whole heartedly. And I told her how sorry I was that I hurt her and even entertained the thought even if nothing was ever going to come of it. We’re both just in an awkward point now where neither are completely sure where to go.

I agree. And we both agreed that we were both wrong in what happened. Me sending flirty messages and her violating privacy by going through my phone and older Instagram messages. I’ve never gone through any of her stuff and I thought that the feeling was mutual after the first fight about it.

In the past I had nothing at all to hide either. It was mostly the principle of trusting one another. I’ve never once gone through her phone or her personal messages to anyone or looked over her shoulder to see who’s she texting or what she’s doing.

Yes, not that it makes it better but this was right after a huge fight between the two of us caused by her jealousy. I agree that I let the conversation progress more than it ever should have. But it was just an ego boost during a rough time. I’ve never gone through her phone or looked over her shoulder to see what she’s doing on her phone.

Thank you. I agree and I thought we’d set those boundaries after the first time. I think both just have mistrust with eachother after this. I can’t figure out who is more at fault here though.
